The choice is pretty wide I know,

But judging on your experience and that of others, what in your opinion would be the best all around choice, price wise, for a plinking and target shooting semi auto pistol in 22 cal ?

Any links to canadian dealers would also be welcome.

thanks

The Rugers are a great choice when it comes to reliability, and they come in various barrel lengths and grip styles. I had a 22/45 and loved it for the accuracy and amazing reliability, but didn't like the looks, magazine safety, and the necessity of using the slide release to release the bolt. I traded it off for a Tanfoglio Force .22, availible from Freedom Ventures. I like the full-size feel, style, and it's pretty accurate, but I dislike that the slide does not lock back on an empty mag. I had a Walther P22, and thoroughly hated it. It was reliable enough, but it ejected brass all over the place including in my face. It you want something that looks like a real handgun, buy the Tanfoglio or take your chances on a Sig Mosquito. If you want something cheap and reliable, get a Ruger.

If you can find a S&W model 41 in good shape for about $500-$600, snap it up.

Get the WaltherP22.
Much cooler and funner than the Ruger's!!
I love it, my kids love it, and i put a nice red laser on the rail.

Depends on what you intend doing with it and your budget. For formal target shooting and a large budget, go with the Walther Target pistol. With less money, buy the S&W M41. With a limited budget, the Ruger.
For shooting because it's fun, buy the Ruger. It's an entry level target pistol that won't cost you the rent/mortgage money to buy. The triggers are poor though.
The important thing is that you'll have to try as many brands of ammo as you can to find the one or two whatever you buy will both shoot well and cycle the action. .22's, rifle or pistol are just like that.
The Smith is extremely picky about what ammo it will both shoot well and cycle the action. The cost of the ammo doesn't matter either.

Tanks All for the comments and info.

I will think about all of this and $$$$, I like the full size frame idea of the Tanfoglio tough ;)
