I am sure this is no big deal for many of the experienced shooters here, but I am very happy with the result and wanted to share.
I bought a Left hand 700 SPS Varmint in .308 last summer and it shoots like a dream. I did however, want to improve things if I could. A detachable magazine perhaps? I think so... Maybe a quality stock to tighten up the groups? Great idea. Only crappy part is I am on a tight budget...
Well as luck would have it last week I found some great CGN'rs selling just the stuff I needed at affordable prices (my version of affordable, not the wife's)
So, I picked up a detachable magazine conversion setup (floor plate and Magazine) for the short action 700. Then a few minutes later I see a left hand ( did you read that ...LEFT HAND!) HS Precision stock for a heavy barrel 700!! (I fricken love the equipment exchange!!)
I got the last of the parts yesterday evening and started to put it together, of course the HS stock didn't just bolt on (can't be lucky all the time) as there was some clearance issues with the X-mark pro trigger assy. (Thanks Dsiwy for pointing out the issue) So, dremmel in hand I made a little adjustment to the stock and it fit perfectly.
Then I notched out the bottom end for the magazine with a file, that took a while but I wanted to be careful.
So, now it is all together and I can't wait to get to the range to see how she shoots. It shot great before grouping between .650" and .900" which is just amazing for a rifle that cost only $559, and that isn't even using match ammo!
All told it cost less than $1250 including glass (Burris Signature 2.5-10x44) and mounts, and this is a rare duck being a Lefty rifle and all.
Here is what she looks like all together
