So im looking to get into 3 gun! looks like a fun more interactive way to shoot! While i have a few things to start 3 gun i dont have Everything to optimize my 3 gun times. For now im just looking to try it out have fun and learn the sport. For the moment i have everything i need BUT i only own a revolver. A Alfa proj in .357. I own 2 pairs of Safariland speed loaders for it and I've gotten really quick about speed loading it. ( almost as fast as a magazine ) but im curious as to if anyone else has or currently runs a revolver for 3 gun i will getting a semi auto down the road but for now i just wanna show up and try the sport to get the hang of it for now. Has or does anyone else run a revolver for 3 gun? is it that disadvantageous
over say a 8 shot 1911? lemme know what you guys think( please be gentle im new to this 3 gun and i dont need a bunch of super bro's telling me exactly what gear to get to win every competition, while i do appreciate the advise please dont go all super bro on my current Choice)

Some folk run sks's with stripper clips....Its all about the shooting.
Accept that its apples and oranges, this is why revolvers have their own division in IPSC. You will never be able to compete with a semi, but that is fine.
Once you get over that, have fun. No reason you can't run a revolver, not quite sure about the rules for abandoning one, but worst case cylinder open and empty.
Again, it should be fun first, then competitive if that is the way you want to go. A kinda sad comment I had with another well experienced shooter as we were watching a group of young black badge students run through some of their first ever stages. The over all sheer excitement, thrill, joy "I said, do you remember being that way?" Shooter looked at me and said "yea, but now its just hard work". Never forget the fun and if you are challenging yourself that is all that matters and tell the "bro's" to stuff it.

Exactly! Who cares what others think or say? Do what you want. Just realize you won't be competitive but you won't be anyways as you are still learning 3 gun.
As docscoutjr said, there are guys who use SKSs in black rifle matches. They never win and fumble a lot but, man, do they have fun!!!

Unless you're Jerry Miculek your revolver will be at a significant disadvantage over a mag fed pistol.

That said, make sure you have enough speedloaders for 30+ rounds per stage and that there are no rules against revolvers where you want to shoot, and have at it.

We have guys running .357 and .44 Mag revolvers in Heavy Metal here. Slow, but awesome.

I was helping out at a match last summer where a couple of the guys shooting were doing a WW1 and theme...Tanker revolvers, Lee Enfield bolt action rifles and old trench guns...with the exception of maybe 2 shooters, who were way too serious, I think everyone else (including myself) had as good a time watching these guys as they did shooting it. And surprisingly, neither one came in dead last overall...I say go for it. You can pick up more competitive gear as you go.

I shot my first 3gun club level match last year with a Ruger GP100,and did okay.Finished in the middle of the pack.I also shoot ICORE as well, you may want to check out those matches as well.
Go for it!

Go out...buy a few boxes of 9mm and see if someone is willing to lend you a gun and holster.

Even if you could do 3 gun with a revolver, you'll lose interest in that gun pretty quick. Used glocks/m&ps can be had for very cheap and really everyone should have one. They're decent guns

Is the choice between shooting your fist 3-gun match with a revolver, vs sitting at home watching TV ?

The answer should be obvious.

Shoot what you have right now. You'll get more fancy gear as you get more involved in the sport.

Go for it, a good way to try it out with out investing more money. Check with your local club and how their divisions are set up. You may only compete against other revolvers or they may have a novice class for first time shooters.

One club I belong to has several different divisions including revolver, rimfire and novice. The point is to get people out to shoot and hopefully have fun. I like seeing the wide variety of firearms, WW1 Luger, Steyr Hahn 1913 (clip fed), lever action rifles, etc.

Just bought an Alfa Project 3551C 357mag/38spec. Looked for speedloader, made my choice on safariland brand but couldn't find the proper type.

On last saturday, I've contacted Alfa Project Czech, asking for best comparison with more known revolver type. I got an answer this morning !!!
1. Those guys are PRO on customer services (not like Asil Silah)
2. Warranty is fully transferable from owner to owner

Here is the answer from Mgr. Tomas Cholava:
«I know, that speedloaders, which are used for S&W size of the frame K are suitable for our revolvers - if you use rubber grip Nr. 13.»

I ended up ordering Safariland J-K2C (come in pac of 3 on ebay.ca)
BRAVO ALFA PROJECT !!!!!

EDIT: Just received my Safariland J-K2C speedloader (made for Smith & Wesson K frame) 3 pac from Ebay. WORK PERFECTLY for Alfa Project 3551C 357mag/38spec
