Short and sweet.

I got my daughter into Air Cadets and I would like to buy her an air rifle at a decent price, reasonably accurate and that has or can accept peep sights.

This might be my chance to get her into shooting so I can have a shooting buddy to go with me on my benchrest shoots.

So far she likes Air Cadets as she likes being with the other kids and doing different things.

I have my selfish reasons for her as well joining but the biggest is learning aviation and I would like to see her as a female pilot.

Thanks in advance,

Calvin

I'm justing getting into this myself, but have a done a little researching and asking around the target shooting circles... From what I've learned so far the Daisy 853C is a decent gun that will produce decent results. Of course, it's not a Feinwerkbau, but it will certainly give accurate feedback for a beginner/intermediate shooter. D&L Air Guns has then for $325 - seems to be the standard price country-wide.

As for quality pellets, it would seem that Haendler & Natermann (H&N) are the brand of many of the top shooters. Again, D&L sells these, as well other top brands for very reasonable prices.

The 853C has a Lothar Walther barrel, and is really quite accurate. I've shot 5 shot groups measuring in at around 1mm. (Overall, not CTC.) However, the trigger is horrible (She might as well get used to it, as it's not allowed to be modified for competition) and the rifle is very small, usually requiring extensions to be added on to the stock for anyone over 12 years old. Luckily, this is all included in the package.

As well, the ammunition used by the Canadian Cadet Movement is H&N Finale Match, a very nice quality pellet.

You can check out www.airgunforum.ca to see if there's anybody selling one used, but D&L airguns is a good place to buy one new. And, I believe they offer a discount price on this rifle to members of the Canadian Forces or Canadian Cadets.

Really a nice little air rifle, my only two problems with it are the trigger, and the plastic guts.
If you're low on funds, the Daisy 953 from Wal Mart approximates the 853C, without the Lothar Walther barrel, wooden stock, and rear peep sight.

Diana Model 34, I got this gun in 1987 for my twelfth birthday, possibly a little heavy depending on your daughter's age/strenght, but dam accurate and will span the test of time. If it wasn't for an accident would be shooting it right now (bent barrel-long story). It is rated at 1000 fps and will need a PAL. Well worth the dough.
