Okay guys I need help in making up my mind. I've already got an AR, SKS and M305 but want a good quality non-restricted black gun to play with. In the EE there is a couple of nice SL-8's and XCR and of course the 858's. At $3000+ the Swiss Arms is right out. So what I'm having problems with is...are the XCR and SL-8 really 3 to 4 times better than the 858 as the price might dictate? Are they that much more accurate, reliable etc. I've got tons of AR mags so mag compatibility is an issue to, but I've collected 8 crates of 7.62x39 ammo as well. The rifle snob in me is coming out, okay the German :D, when it comes to quality/price, but the frugal aspect of my personality balks as paying over 2K for a plastic gun. Need input.

I took the plunge on an SL8 about a month ago, and am very happy with it. I like the look of the XCR, but I've heard mixed reviews. The one thing the XCR undoubtedly has going for it is that it's available in 7.62.

As for whether it's worth the money, it depends what you want to do, if you just want something to blast through crates of cheap surplus ammo, then stick with a CZ858. Is the H&K more reliable and accurate? Absolutely, but as for whether that's worth the extra money, that's down to your own choice.

Also, don't rule out the SAN completely, by the time you've accessorized your SL8/XCR, there's probably not much difference in the price.

I would say Tavor or CZ858, both are quality firearms, and you already have ammo for both and mags for one of them. Just because the CZ858 costs alot less dosen't mean its "cheap".

What he said. I went with an SL8, loved it but it wasn't for me. My next buy will be Tavor or a SAN, same pricing if you want to modify the SL8---which you will eventually do I can guarantee that.

If you're going to go with an XCR or SL8, save up the extra bit of money and buy the SAN. I got one and it's worth every penny. Also, if you keep tabs on the EE, you can likely get a good deal on one.

I would go XCR, you can get it in 7.62 and swap calibers later down the line. As well it has the full rails for you to hang what ever ninjafied stuff you want on it.

I bought a S.Arms CQB recently and am waiting on a Tavor, but these are both more $$ than you're interested in spending ('cause you are smart, unlike me  ).

I did, however hold a RobArms XCR for the 1st time at CRAFM last week and was blown away by how it felt. And non-restricted to boot? Win/win, far as I'm concerned.
