Want to build an accurized m-14 from scratch

If you're after some USGI M14 parts send me a PM, I have a bunch of extra stuff I can part with for a build like this. Have done a couple myself. Look at the stickies (threads pinned to the top of this forum) for rebarreling advice, stock filling, etc, priceles info courtesy of the good guys here.

Thank you in adveance!

You best bet is to pick up a Norinco M305 and strip it for the action and build on that, since the Norc actions are forged.

There are probably no dealers that stock the custom M14 parts needed for a "accurised/ match" build.

The main M14 parts source here on CGN is out of the country until June.

You are looking at roughly $2500,00+ for a match built M14, depending on the parts used.

Read the sticky in the M14 FAQ section. The is a thread I did up when I built my M14.

Just a sticky point about terminology; a true M14 is a either a full auto or a converted auto in Canada. What you are talking about is a semi-auto only civilian version of this firearm, right?

If you want to go top of the line, there are a half-dozen new build receiver makers in the US. My favourite is the LRB M25 with permanent built-in from the start scope bases - one on the receiver ring and the other inplace of the clip guide. Get a US maker to collect the parts and pay one export licence. And, sell a kidney or a child because this could cost you $5000.

Thanks for your help guys. This board is an endless supply of free excellent advice.

I guess m-14 was the wrong name. You know what I mean though right? :D

Yes, semi-auto only.We know what a true M14 is, but we still call the semi ones M14s. ;)

An LRB reciever will cost you $600.00 to $700.00 U.S. The Norc reciever is forged as well and is dimensionally correct as TRW recievers. For $399.00, you get a whole rifle and can sell off the Chinese parts. The Norc reciever is worth $399.00 by itself!!!

Getting the parts together in the U.S. and having the export papers done will be the biggest hassle.

As to cost:
-Match barrel $400.00 to $800.00 Cdn.
-Reciever (By a Norc M305) $399.99
-USGI op rod - $200.00 to 300.00
-USGI Trigger Assembly - $200.00 to $ 250.00
-USGI bolt - $200.00 to $350.00
-GAs cylinder assembly - $250.00 to $400.00
-Stock $350.00 to $1200.00
-rear sights - $150.00 to $200.00
-NM Flash suppressor - $150.00
-Op rod spring - $10.00
-NM Op rod spring guide - $60.00 to $90.00
-Bolt release - $65.00
-Scope mount - $260.00 to $400.00
-labor to have rifle built, bedded and tuned- $85.00 per hour and up.Probably $600.00 to $1000.00 labor for rifle build.

As mentioned above, my Sage EBR MK 14 Mod 0 build would have run around $7000.00 including optics.

Skullboy, how much more accurate is your rifle in comparison to an average m-305?

I am asking this because a fellow brought a guest to my range, who brought a m1a with a heavy match barrel he claimed was a Kreiger. I had my m-305 with fibreglass stock and arms mounted 10 x super sniper. I can't remember the model of scope he had but it was a Leuopold tactical of some sort.

He claimed his m1a would shoot 1/2'" groups with his Federal match ammo. He shot 3 -5 round groups, allfrom 1" to 11/2. I shot 3 groups with mine and portugese 147 ball, all were 1 1/2. He was not happy, I gave him some of my ammo and he shot a couple of 1 1/2 " groups. He gave me 10 rds of his and I shot a 1 1/8' group and an obvious flueky 5/8" group! He gave me another 5 and I shot a 1 1/2 " group.

He then borrowed my rifle and with his federal ammo shot an honest 1/2" group, and then another group of right at 1"!

What I am wondering is IF this is typical, and this is a big if, what good is a heavy match barrel? maybe for longer strings?

the barrel is only one facter in this.seems to me you've got a good set up on a good rifle.maybe its time you did some reloading to see just how good.a small group of freinds including myself all own an m305 and all shoot very well with origional barrel and bolt.if you really start to push your yardage out i beleive you would notice a difference with a heavy barrel.
