Please support this initiative:

This is a long fight to go yet. Somewhere down the road it would be nice for people who work and play outdoors to have proper protection from dangerous wildlife in situations where human life is in danger.

This is a cause that everyone can understand and support (including average Joe Suburban). It could also lead to other things, that I dare not name.

This could be a real fight that we could win, please support it!

Thank you for your time guys,

Great idea but the timing? Not so good.

Let's get C-42 passed with needed amendments, get the CPC re-elected then move on. The initiative for bush carry will be picked up by the antis and used as an example of a slippery slope to loosen gun laws further even before our next steps have been taken.

I support this in concept but there are plenty of available firearms to use in the short term and now is not the time to start another job before the first one is finished.

The CWPA says handguns aren't as powerful as long rifles….I guess they've never unloaded a .44 mag

I don't really like their argument about the effectiveness of spray, and bear bombs. They go a little far with those hypothetical scenarios, as both of those are excellent deterrents. In saying that, they make great headway when they point out the fact that we're considered competent to carry long guns in the bush, so why not restricted. Makes sense.

Timing could be great if a conservative majority is elected. Frankly, I'd take a provision that made it less restrictive to wilderness carry, any day over C-42.

Realistically this is probably a pipe dream, but if the conversation is happening maybe it will get on an agenda at some point in 20 years...

Ok guys, a lot of you seem to feel that there is going to be a lot of momentum for this right away. They have begun action, but you must remember that this is a long process that requires continuous legal funding.

And yes, a thread linking to another thread because lets be honest, not very many people go into the Action Center on this forum, as this forum has a lot of sub sections. I am simply spreading the word where people directly interested in this can learn about it and take part in this fight if they so choose.

I agree. I hate to be the negative Nelly here but this action could all be for naught if the fiberals should be voted into power next November (I cringe just thinking about it). This initiative should have been activated the second the Cons won their majority. Even with a Conservative minority the libs and dippers would team up and vote down any "loosening", as they would see it, of the firearms act.

I bought a Rossi Ranch Hand/Mares Leg. Should be no issue to carry that in the bush. Have a holster for it, it isn't all that big.

with a bear sitting on your chest trying to maneuver a mares leg might prove a challenge, also follow up shots might be hard if he ate one of your hands (or disabled it).

id still prefer the compactness of a pistol in such a situation, like say a 460 Rowland.
not only would that stop the problem but it would probably almost pick it up and remove it from your chest as well.

In the interim I carry a 12 gauge shotgun with slugs and when I do have my Wilderness Permit again next spring a 45Colt SAA or my Ruger in the same caliber for back up.. Having a heavy handgun you can't get at in a hurry is not much better than a heavy rock. Good luck with the attempt. Those involved are up a major up hill battle.

Take Care

Bob

I think in the real world people that want to carry are just doing it anyway. I met an old codger at the gun club years ago with a 1911 with an on-board flashlight that he called his 'Latrine Gun'. When he got up in the middle of the night in bear country, he takes that gun with him. I thought to myself, 'Good for him - at his age if he can still make it into the back country in a canoe...well, that is a worthy achievement. And why should a guy his age have to pack around a 10 lb. rifle just because some urban liberal snot is afraid of guns and refuses to educate himself?' I lost track of him but I hope he still makes it out to the woods. I would also hope the fish cops would show some discretion and common sense if they caught him too...but common sense and the law are old enemies.

If the bear is on your chest, you should shoot yourself.

Common sense would tell you, that a hunter in the bush is no threat to anyone whether they are carrying a rifle or a handgun so why do the politicians have an issue with it ? The handguns are registered, they know who has them, again, where is the problem, where is the threat to society ?? Just far too much BIG BROTHER in our lives. I understand we need laws to guide us but we don't need laws that tie our hands behind our backs. We are not asking to conceal carry and walk around everywhere, we are asking for a measure of security when we ate harms way in the bush with the big cats and bears. Sorry, I don't see any common sense in that ! JMO
