I have used Cooey all of my life and have found them to be reliable and fun to shoot , but as we are all aware Cooey is no longer around , what is the next best .22?

CZ is probably as good as your going to get for the $$ value.
Can shoot next to an anshutz and I have never had one fail as
it is the same action as the 50s brno. Which I also have.

What are you talking about?
There are lots of Cooeys still around. :D

The best?
Well I'm slightly biased in favour of the older Mossberg .22s. :D

Greenman:

It boils down to dollars. As said already brno/CZ will give you the best bang for your buck. But there not the price of a cheap savage. The 452 american will run you roughly $450. That said you could likely shoot it for 20 or 30 yrs and it will be worth more than you paid for it, if its looked after.----Cowboy

I have not fired a lot of 22's but I do love my Marlin 70HC. It is the first firearm that I ever bought, picked it up at Canadian Tire in the 80's. The plastic 25 round magazine that came broke years ago so I make do with the 7 shot.

I've heard good things about the Russian made TOZ-78 (bolt) and TOZ-99 (semi) and believe it may qualify as 'the best' within a certain price range (the last price I saw them selling for was $272/$299 CDN at ArmRus).

I don't know how they compare to the CZ/BRNO for the extra ~$200 - If anyone has experience with both I'd be curious to hear a comparison.

Depends if you want to spend around $200 dollars, or more then $500. Depends whether you're satisfied with a toonie sized group at 50 yards or expect a dime sized group at 100. Depends whether you want a target gun or a hunting gun, or something that kind of does both. Depends whether you want a new gun or perhaps one of the great classics on the used market.

It's all in personal taste.

Personally a couple I particularly like is my Brno #5 and CIL/Anschutz 310

And I agree with that also. :)

I like some good accurcy but I am not going to stress too much over it , I just want somethingI can blast 200+ rounds through without jamming or fouling too bad

(whispering) I'll let you in on a secret, but don't tell anybody. Find an old, but little-used Mossberg. A target model, if you can. They're very cheap, and very accurate. But remember, don't tell anybody else!

Price point easily goes to the Toz 78 (Paid $130 for mine I think)

Look and feel goes to CZ/BRNO, hands down. Close your eyes and you'd never mistake the Toz for anything other than a Toz. The BRNO is just so much nicer.

Accuracy... In my hands they were about equal out to 50 yards. The Toz plays way out of it's price range in the accuracy department.
