Want to start reloading.

Hello,

I am thinking of reloading but I have a few questions first. I have a .270, .30-06, and a .44 mag. I would like to start reloading all of these. My question is, how much for the tools to start reloading? I don't need anything fancy and from what I have seen they range from $35 to $400. I don't really care how long it takes to reload, just want something that will get the job done and not cost me a fortune upfront. Also, for most of these guns a box of 20 rounds costs about $25 - $30 for decent factory ammo, approximately how much would it cost for 20 rounds if I started reloading? (This question is to help convince the wife :D )

Thanks for all the help!
Evan

Welcome to reloading world...

For equimpement, go www.leeprecision.com, they have decent price and depend of me, good quality too, I recommend Lee classic cast single stage, very solide and not as expensive as RCBS. for dies, get carbide dies.

For saving, I don't reload rifle round yet, but just yesterday, one thread says for .44mag, you can save up to 75% costs...

For security reason, please read at least two books about reloading before even touch your equipements, to understand, if you have a doubt, stop, check books, ask here....

Be safe, shoot well...

Lee aniversary loading kit is a great place to start. All you have to buy is your dies, powder, bullets, etc. Definately start by reading on it first. Also, if you know anybody that reloads, go help and watch as this is the best learing tool going.

The Lee products are inexpensive, and not as pretty as the rest. But, they work just fine. Get a Lee single stage press, some dies, a powder measure, a scale, a priming tool, a primer pocket cleaning tool, a deburring tool, and you are all set for handgun ammo (not sure what else you need for rifle). I would also recommend a tumbler for cleaning your brass, but that is more an optional thing (although I don't see how people can be happy loading dirty brass).

As far as savings forget it because you may load a box for about half price over factory but you'll start shooting twice as much LOL. Seriously it's a great hobby and the feeling of taking that big old mossy horn with your own custom ammo is like they say priceless.I'd start out with an RCBS starter kit and add options as you go ,that's what i did and believe me you'll get hooked real fast and your wallet will soon be m.t. but it's fun.Enjoy.

Keep an eye on the EE forum, I managed to get all I need there. And saved quite a bit over new. I use a Lee three hole turret press, once you have it set for one calibre you can swap the die plate for the other two in moments.

Like has been suggested, read lots and ask for help here, lots of great people willing to answer!!!

Just tell the wife that by reloading you are recycling therefore this activity is earth-friendly and is to be encouraged.

Thanks for all the help guys. I am going to have to try this out sometime. I am working on the wife, I took her out to try shooting and she said she wants to get her PAL now so thats a good thing I think :).

Now I get to buy gun stuff for me and her!!!
