Hi all,

I have an old 1886 Winchester in great shape and I would love to put a few rounds through it.

Problem is finding any ammo; wcf 40-82.

Anyone have a reasonable priced source I would appreciate it.

Cheers

Once you're set-up, reloading for this number isn't too bad, 40/82 cases avail. from Buff. Arms, they also have .45 Basic to form your own. They have Redding dies for $64 US, M.T. Chambers markets the proper .406" or .408" 260 grain bullet, very similar to the orig. bullet. Get at 'er!!

You won't likely find loaded ammo. Shooter's Choice lists Bertram brass at $49.95 per 20. All those early cartridges are expensive to shoot. .45-70 and a few others being exceptions.
An 1886 will be a BP rifle too. Mind you, there are smokeless loads in some manuals.

My bad for posting in wrong form, but thanks for advice from all.

Not in a position to reload, wont shoot that much so have to look for other options.

Everybody is in a position to reload. They just have to learn how, and to learn what they need, as opposed to what they may need if they want the "best" of everything.
You don't "need" a Rock Chucker, or a bloody great progressive reloader to load a 100 rounds at a time.

You can be set up and producing all the ammo you could possibly ever shoot, using no more space than a carton of cigarettes would take up.

Couple dealers on here stock, or can get, about any caliber brass you could want. Try mysticplayer, or msg.drew, for starters.

A reloading hand press, from Lee or Lyman, or even more traditionally, for the old caliber, a 310 Tool with the correct dies, or a Winchester reloading tool ($$$) will size and seat for you.

I've seen guys reloading at the range with a portable set-up in a briefcase style case. They are more organized than I am, though.

I have a single round of 40-82. You can't have it! :)

Cheers

LOL Thanks Trev, I just dont think I will use it enough to reload. Never fired the gun just want to shoot a few, say I did it and put it back in the safe. Only looking for a box or two.

I would some day look for a reloader, but it would be for pistols I shoot a lot of, not a rifle I never really expect to blast away with.

Cheers
