I just picked up an SPS Varmint in .223 Rem that has a Leupold VXII 6 - 18x AO scope just waiting to be mounted.

I'm looking for some recommendations.

I have the leupold base/rings on my Savage, and I do like it for the ability to adjust the windage of the scope (perhaps this is totally unnecessary, but it's nice to know that the scope isn't mounted to the side of center).

Since the SPS Varmint is a top-loading rifle with a hinged floorplate, I'm wondering if the Leupold setup provides more than adequate clearance to feed it from up top, or if I'd be far better off looking for a 2 piece option? I'm not really planning to go super long range with this rifle, so I don't need anything too special, like 20 moa mounts for example...

I'd love to hear your thoughts, and especially first-hand experiences!
