going in to the Okanagan highlands (south-east ridges of Kelowna), never been up there; hoping its going to be warm. taking the risk because its my son's first hunt, he will be 11 this month. mostly going in search of a good time but would be nice to bag a deer, grouse, raccoon...; however I wont flick the trig on bambi  if I have to carry for more than a 300 yards. If you have any expearence up there please inform me...whatever it is...a favorite fishing stream, lake, meadow...whatever!?

Went fishing up at Jim lake (if I remember correctly) a few years back nice spot and there was a gov. managed camping site on the lake (very few people there when I went). There is trout in the lake as I saw a few fly fishermen catch some...but I was'nt so lucky. I have to say that fishing was not our first priority that time. All in all it was a nice place with good hunting potential. I saw lots of grizzly poop in logging roads and that made my self glade that I had brought an old 303 along :)

Hi Coyotejoe,

I am from Kelowna and am slowly getting to know the area. I've seen quite a few grouse in the area of the Myra Canyon logging road. The access is pretty good and there are some decent whitetail and mulie areas as well. Stick to the first plateau area and the Kettle valley railroad bed, grouse there for sure and you never know what else will pop up in front of you! Quite a bit of hunting traffic so be aware and stay safe! Some big mulies came out of OK falls area last week.

The views can be spectacular on a clear day so pack the Kodak, alway nice to have kids in pics in the bush!

For a better chance a big whitetails the area around Beaverdale and Rock Creek are better bets, as well as the Christian Valley. Quite a few there and one monster which unfortunately was killed by a manitoba tourit's car on the highway not far from Beaverdale, this guy was huge and would have easily made the book.

Hope your kid has as good a time as my daughters do. And remember to keep these area's a secret!!!!
