My local gun store has a walther pp in 380 auto I want to buy it but I can't because I a was not one of the lucky ones who was grandfathered prohib status.... I know the conversion can be done the barrel needs to be replaced with on a few millimeters longer... the onsight gunsmith wont do it for what ever reason...

Technically I can buy it and have the store send it to a gunsmith to have it converted from prohibited to restricted... I am having a hard time finding someone who will do this for me.

...and the barrel does not need to be extended, it needs to be replaced with a slightly longer one...

Thats what I ment :D I would do it myself but then I would have a prohib license and then wouldnt need to change the barrel lol

I will contact epps Thanks Guys !

you could braze on a barrel extension(4140 steel) to the existing barrel making it longer and a permanent fixture. Just a idea.

An extension can be added, if: the extension is welded on, the barrel is reamed out, and a rifled liner installed, end to end.
Most likely easier to rebarrel.

I am a welder I know how to weld, braze, and tig but regardless of my skills I can't do it because I cant be in posession of a prohib because I dont have a prohib license...

The easiest way in my opinion is to find a simmilar barrel and make it fit... remember a walther pp isnt a simple barrel swap like changing out a sig 229 to a 226 legal barrel... walthers barrel is pined and in place solid...

And regardless I am not going to spend big money on a mint pp and have some botched back shop job its going to be a completely new barrel I normally keep pistols a long time and put alot of round thru them so it has to stand up to 100,000 round lifetime...

has to be continus rifleing, so a extention even if the rifling matched what was there it would still be a prohib firearm as looking closely you could see the extention. the bbl has to be replaced. (or bored out and a sleave put in so that it extends through the origonal and out past. )

Sounds like a lot of trouble to me. You should just tell me what store has it. I have my prohib status and would love a pp to go with my ppk.:D

If one could find a walther with a longer barrel perhaps a target gun that was classed as resticted could you cut the barrel back to the legal limt? Since it wont be changeing classes there should be no issues? or will it have to go to ottawa to be varified? that its still in the correct class?
