I have always been curious about black powder. Is there a good site which gives info for a novice. I read this site quite often however I am confused on some of the terms.
Also I live in a no hunting area east of Edmonton and I understand that some black powder guns don't require an FAC. Does this mean it's not classed as a firearm??

Do a google search for the terms "mlml" and separately "muzzlelloadersemporium". They are two mailing groups with home pages containing FAQ's and devoted exclusively to muzzle loading with black powder. Both lean strongly towards traditional guns and both do not discuss cartridge guns.
the pertinent sections of the law are cc84 1(a) for original muzzle loaders, cc84 1(b) plus SOR 98-464 for other categories of antiques and cc84 3 which spells out the exemptions.
in practical terms, modern flintlock longarms are considered non guns unless used in the commission of a crime.
