Wanting to get into BP hunting.

Lyman Trade Rifle from Wholesale Sports or maybe ask Juan Valdez what he has. Elwood epps has a number of used rifles at good prices as does Shooters Choice.

I have bought some cheap($100-$275) black powder guns from fellow gunnutz on the EE form that worked out.

I always advise people that if they are the type that wants to grab, a gun go to the range, shoot and toss it back in the gun cabinet, don't get into muzzleloaders. You spend time with them learning to use them and clean them after every use. Even with the newfangled powders.
Talked to a buddy of mine today and asked if he got out for muzzleloader season. He said he sat in his truck for an hour with his inline. I asked if he even loaded it. He said he still had it loaded from last year!!! He fired it off before he came home this year. He will clean it eventually. Its already pitted from leaving it loaded for months and not cleaning it. And that is with the newfangled powder. I know, I've cleaned it for him.
Ask yourself if you as a student have the time to get to learn about a new type of gun. Forget the money end of it. If you don't have the time, save your money.

Don't go too cheap on your first gun. Get a lyman great plains, TC hawken or pedersolis. I know of a lyman great plains for 300$ US plus shipping. If you want something real nice look for a used custom built gun. I have seen them for as low as 500 USD in new or like new condition. If you have to go cheap the lyman trade rifle or CVA hawken would be my choice.

I dont have to go cheap. I'm taking donations!

A very nice fellow on this board showed me a good .54 caliber pedersoli for 149..

I think im getting that one.

I am looking for a lighter rifle than the Great Plains, like the Deerstalker or Trade rifle, and I want a cap lock. That lets the states out, and Wholesale has these rifles in .50 but not .54. I am still looking around.

Hi Duck,
that's the reason I bought the Savage 10MLII.A M/L that shoots regular SMOKELESS POWDER.
Just like hunting with my 300 Weatherby.

So why not just hunt with your 300 WTBY:confused:
So now you basically have two 300 WTBY's and no real muzzleloader:confused:(well ok,you can only load it thru the muzzle, but smokeless powder, come on:rolleyes: ) Because you can't really consider the Savage m.l. a true m.l. now can you.......this is getting more & more confusing:confused:
If you only want to buy one gun for big-game well then I suppose,
But that's just my .02 cents. I'm sure it's a great shooter.
