I always advise people that if they are the type that wants to grab, a gun go to the range, shoot and toss it back in the gun cabinet, don't get into muzzleloaders. You spend time with them learning to use them and clean them after every use. Even with the newfangled powders.
Talked to a buddy of mine today and asked if he got out for muzzleloader season. He said he sat in his truck for an hour with his inline. I asked if he even loaded it. He said he still had it loaded from last year!!! He fired it off before he came home this year. He will clean it eventually. Its already pitted from leaving it loaded for months and not cleaning it. And that is with the newfangled powder. I know, I've cleaned it for him.
Ask yourself if you as a student have the time to get to learn about a new type of gun. Forget the money end of it. If you don't have the time, save your money.
