Hello all,

I would like to join the Shotgun skeet range near where I live in Ottawa. Its at Connaught Ranges.

What would I need to get started in this sport? In terms of type of gun and ammo, safety kit, and so on.

Shot gun of 12, 20, 28 or .410 ga capable of shooting doubles, with a target load of #7.5-#9 shot.( semi, O/U, sxs etc..no single shots) Safety glasses, ear protection, pouch or vest for carrying ammo and empty shells. A good attitude and willingness to have fun.

Oh, and a skirt!:D

Naw, its just an old joke thing between trap shooters and skeet shooters.

Skeet shooters usually wear a vest of some sort, and in the summer when worn with shorts the vest looks like a skirts.:D

The skeet shooters usually bug trap shooters about the oddbawl way some of them call for a bird.

Go to the range, there will be lots of jokers there to explain it to you.

"NGHHHRRGGHHHAAAW" will work on skeet as well if the puller is on the ball and understands the language.

Hey Mike,
I'm a member at this club. I'd suggest coming out and giving it a try. There are a lot of people who can help you with any questions you may have.

PM me if you would like any details.

Generally though;

You probably want a 12ga that is capable of firing 2 shots without much intervention (a semi or an O/U).

Ammo: For skeet you probably want target loads with #9 shot. Assuming 12ga, 1.125oz of lead or less.

Safety: Glasses and earplugs are required. These are available at the club, however you probably want to bring you own glasses.

A shell pouch can be useful. There are some at the club that you can borrow.

Brad.
