Wanting to reload 9.3x62 looking for recommendations

I recently picked up a beautiful Mauser chambered in 9.3x62 and I was looking for recommendations on dies, bullets, powder and brass for this rifle.

It looks like it is harder to find components for this type of ammo.

I currently load 303brit with imr 8208, 308win with cfe223 as well as 30-30 with the cfe223 as well

Wondering if the cfe223 will be a good fit for 9.3 or if I should look at different powders.

Any advice is welcome and take leads on buying components as well

Dies, bullets, powder and brass. Some years ago, I got a Husqvarna Model 649 (?) rifle in 9.3x62 - I also got RCBS FL dies at that time - all that I have ever used - P/N 34501. If you search on 24hourcampfire, you might find loads published by John Barsness - he is sort of the "Ted Wagner" about 9.3x62 for Americans, I think. I have used his loads for years. Varget powder with 250 grain Accubonds. I think the standard original loading was 286 grain bullets - I use Big Game powder with those - loads used with either PPU Soft Point or Nosler Partition bullets. I think I have only ever used Federal 215 primers - none left. There are a couple boxes of Woodleigh 320 grain PPSN bullets that I have not tried yet. For brass, I was getting PPU brand, through Trade-Ex and on CGN. I think Ted Wagner makes his from 30-06 brass.

After ;) hearing "Ted's" praise of the calibre, I decided I NEEDED one. I went the 'inexpensive' route and ordered a full wood M-70 Zastava from Tradex. Prior to its arrival. I started stocking up on a 'variety' of bullets with some serious testing in mind. The first batch of bullets and brass was from a friend locally and that basically was some Lapua brass and 285gr PRVI bullets. The Zastava performed(y) FAR above what I expected with my first two handloads using that brass, bullets and IMR 4320 & IMR 4064. So much so, I have yet to try any of the other bullets I had picked up. Side issue, but after my 'experience' with the Zastava,:) I picked up another identical but in 7x57mm.
Also, something I neglected to mention, the 9.3x62, I've renamed the calibre The .366 Wagner.

A 7x57 and a 9.3x62 is a really good "two gun" battery, I think. 7x57 is a little light for moose, I think, but has been many taken with that. 9.3x62 is a bit much for deer, but also many taken with them. With a decent 22 Long Rifle, one would be fairly well setup - modern advertising be dammed. If you could only have one rifle in Western Canada, I would probably suggest a 30-06 (or a 308 Win, or a 270 Win, or a 7mm Rem Mag, and so on ...) But then, I am likely "old school" and a bit "set in my ways".

I haven't used it, but CFE223 is close to leverevolution and RL15 in burn rate, which I have worked up loads for, so there's really no reason why it shouldn't work just fine.

Dies... I use RCBS because that's what I found when I was looking for them. If I were starting over I'd likely get Redding, but they're pricey.

Lapua brass is first rate, but it's more than doubled in price since I bought mine. PPU is probably the most economical.
Bullets are catch as catch-can.

Try Budget Shooter Supply, X-reload, Prophet River, Intersurplus & Ellwood Epps for components.
 
PPU brass, Speer 270gr or PPU 286gr, all reasonably priced, Intersurplus usually has stock, probably have dies as well, Lee, RCBS, Hornady all make them.
I use Varget and H414, should be able to work something up with CFE223 easy.
 
H4350, fed magnum primers, brass varies, nosler, PPU, Norma, but never Hornady! 286 gn Swift Aframe at 2450fps.
I had good luck with IMR4166 but that was when it was available!
Oh and I use Lee pacesetter dies!
 
One holer in my Tikka 9.3x62 @ 100 (IMR4320). The dope is in pic ...

58.5grs RL15 for 286gr Nosler Partitions cloverleaf. But I use the 250s mostly ...

Are the PPU bullets good on game? I've heard bad things about them in other calibers.
 
I have several rifles in 9.3x62. I have not yet used one on a moose, but hope too. Recoil from the bench is fierce, but no issue when standing.

Any medium speed powder works well. I have used 4895, RL15, Varget and N140.

I shoot the Speer 270s because they are cheap and have a good record on game.

Thank you for your honesty lol.
Off the bench I'd rate it above "fierce", maybe "loosen your fillings".
I have 2 in the cartridge, this one is my favorite, 1/4" hard rubber buttpad, 286gr at near 2500fps, that's approaching 4000ft/lbs energy in a fairly light weight rig. But she shoots very well If you can hang on to it. I should probably load it down a bit to something more pleasant... maybe someday.

Speer 270gr bullets are good. Hornady 286gr are crap. I've used 250gr and 280gr cast bullets with IMR4895 for much of my range shooting.

Any powder in the 4895-4064-Varget speed range will be good, and the cartridge is not fussy about powder in my experience. With the 270gr bullets - BLC2 got best speed and IMR4895 was the most accurate.
 
H4895 will work with all bullet weights. F210 primer. No need to for magnum primers. If you can't find H4895 you can choose Varget for bullets of 250 and less and Big Game for 286 bullets.
Generally speaking, any powder that is good for the 308 win is also good for the 9.3x62.
