Currently I'm running vx3 2-8x32 duplex on both my model 70's in extra low talley rings. One rifle is short action the other long. I love the weight, size and clarity of these scopes but for some reason I can't get the eye relief to work for me. And when on different magnifications the eye relief and sight picture changes which leads to me having an improper cheek weld. So I think it's time I trade em up. But I'm not sure what I should be looking for so I'm looking for suggestions... Prior to these I was using 50mm Nikon monarchs. And that eye on seemed great.
Any suggestions? I would like to stick with same size weight and power if possible. And would love to be able to trade these for whatever I replace with.

To each their own, I have never been able to use lower than medium height Talley's on my M70's. Anything lower and I've had a heck of a time with cheek weld and eye relief.

The VX-3 2.5-8x36 is one of the better all round hunting scopes. They're light and compact with great performance.

The VX-3 3.5-10 will help with tube length and get the scope farther back.

I also find the Leupolds have a smaller eyebox than I like. Funny, the old M8's are huge.

I've moved on mostly to higher grade stuff like Schmidt & Bender, Zeiss and March and can't complain much anymore.

I find the newer Burris scopes are very forgiving in this regard (especially given their prices) and have them on a few cheaper rifles.

Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 has 4" eye relief that is constant throughout the range of magnification. Leupolds are great on low power but you lose almost an inch of eye relief when you turn up the magnification.

I think Leupold uses a lens or two less than some others. It helps in the weight department but the exit pupil sweet spot is shorter because of it. A couple extra lenses can make the exit beam less cone-shaped and more cylindrical, making the eyebox longer and more useable.

I'm considering switching back to the monarch line as I never had a problem with them. Hopefully I can find someone with a couple 2-8x32 plex reticles that wants to trade up.
