I like to load my 9mm warm as that what my AR likes best.

I use 4.7 grains of Win 231 under 124 gr plated Berry.

The 231 is a little dirty but works well. What are your warm 9mm loads?

Thanks

Paul

I have heard that HP-38 is cleaner than W231, but haven't had the chance to try it, as for me I am using Titegroup and it is cleaner than W231

Titegroup 4.0g under 124g CMJ (9mm S&W m&p)
or
Titegroup 4.5g under 115g CMJ (9mm S&W m&p)

I made some 115 gr Frontier copper plated RN's on top of 7.5 gr of Blue Dot. 7.5 gr of Blue Dot is midway between the starting and maximum charge in my manual. These are too hot for my CZ 85 COMBAT. Big Big muzzle flash.

I am having fantastic accuracy in my Storm with 115gr Hornady XTP at 100m being pushed by 4.3 gr of Red Dot. A tad hot.....It clocks at 1270fps producing 415.86 ft/lbs at the muzzle. That's about 40 ft/lbs more than my .230gr .45ACP reloads!

Isn't HP-38 and W231 the same powder? (just like H110 and W296 are the same powder)

I use Tightgroup or W231

How close is tightgroup to W231? W231 is ball powder. Tightgroup is ???? powder. Yes im a newbie reloader :D

We are all here to help. :D

Titegroup is a spherical powder, with grains just slighter smaller than W231. It meters very well. It is also faster burning than W231.

I have found that higher pressure loads of W231 tend to burn cleaner than lower pressure/reduced loads. Another very clean powder is Clays but it is only suitable for mild loads since it is a very fast powder.

One thing I generally suggest for new reloader is to use a slower/bulkier powder to start off with loading handgun rounds. A powder like Trail Boss is intentionally designed to be a bulky powder that takes up a lot of room in the case. It is much easier to see a double load of slow/bulky powders. New reloaders tend to have lots of things to worry about and this is one thing that adds a nice level of comfort. Minor drawback is that Trail Boss is a couple dollars a pound more expensive more expensive than Titegroup but considering a pound will load several thousand rounds........ Trail Boss burning speed is between Titegroup and 231 so it is quite versatile.

4.6gr of Titegroup works great with a 115gr Frontier RN in both my XD and the AR 9mm.

It's a bit cleaner than 231 and normally uses a little less powder than 231 so can go a bit father per canister.

As the one user mentioned Bluedot worked great, too but used twice as much powder so only lasted half as long. If you have it, great but not worth the price when other powders use half the amount for the same $.

6 gr of Unique under 125 gr FMJ gave me Avg Vel 1254. I got this load from an experienced loader stateside. It is warm but I used it in my Hi-Power. Not a load I would use a lot in a Hi-Power but it works.

Take Care

Bob
