I received my refund cheque last week and ... Just a heads up if you run into this lot of ammo.
Below is an email I sent to Federal Ammunition after running into problems with this ammo. I have been shooting the the Federal Auto Match bulk ammo in my pistol for a number of years with no issues but ran into a problem with this specific lot. I bought it at our local Canadian Tire and they still had 4 boxes of it in the same lot number, so if you purchase the same ammo from your local CTC, check the lot number as it comes from the same distributor.
Hi - I was wondering if anyone has identified and issue with your .22 Long Rifle Auto Match 325 bulk box ammunition - Lot 14E234. I have shot this ammunition for years in my S&W Model 41 with no issues. Last night, I finished off the last rounds of the same ammunition and opened a new box (Lot 14E234) which I purchased last week from our Canadian Tire store. Out of the 10 rounds fired in the Model 41, 9 failed to cycle the action and eject, and the 10th failed to fire at all. We then tried the ammo in a S&W .22 revolver and would get 1-2 fail to fires per 5 shots. Switched ammunition to another brand no no fail to fires. Switch back to the newly opened box, multiple misfires again. I am going to buy another box today (before our ammo supply runs out) as long as it is not the same lot number. I cant tell you the lot number on the box I finished as I threw it in the wood stove at the range after it was empty and before I started shooting the new box. Just flagging this that you may have an issue with this lot (there were no signs of damage, moisture or corrosion on the box when purchased). Thanks
My response from federal was that they would refund me the cost of the ammo but no response as to if there was a quality control issue.
I didnt buy any more Federal - I ended up buying some Winchester to replace it.
