USGI M14 Parts PSA:

We all know that there is a chronic shortage of USGI M14 parts.
You may not realize that there is a growing military demand for USGI M14 parts.

Warning! ~ Buyer Beware!

The market is about to be flooded with USGI parts that are in fact rebuilt from demilled parts.
Demilled parts: Parts cut in half rendering said parts worthless except for scrap.

These rebuilt USGI parts will be available in the US soon and the price will be low ~ avoid them.

You have been warned.

Good advice. Sometimes it's not worth the extra $$ to replace the chinese parts with USGI (real or perceived) into your $ 400 blaster. Unless you are competing with the M14 (most of you are not... so don't run out and buy USGI stuff).

I tend to buy every Chinese op rod and trigger group I can find.
Hell, I tend to buy every ChiCom M14 I can find :)

Would you mind sharing details about this ?
Email me at :mikebaker1129@aol.com
I have not heard about this, but would be very interested in any details you could provide .
Thanks....

And how do we know the Norc parts are up to snuff? QC isn't exactly what Chicoms are famous for. Just ask Mattel.

Here is an example of a re welded op rod.

An individual/company purchased a bunch of scrap that was made up of demilled M14s.
The repaired USGI parts are going to hit the market soon.

sf, I have found the older Chinese parts (op rods, barrels, trigger groups and receivers) to be of high quality.
Is there a problem with the Norinco rifles you have north of the border?

Rear sight parts can be substandard. Apart from these, the rest of the parts are satisfactory. There are QC issues related to sloppy assembly. These rifles are being assembled primarily with NOS parts remaining from the days when the rifles were being imported into the US. Generally the receivers have US importer's marks, and flashiders have the bayonet lug deleted and are spot welded to the barrel to comply with the former AWB. I expect that basically the rifles are like the very last ones imported into the US prior to the embargo on importation.
Do the ones in the US have the lockscrew in the right hand side of the receiver ring?

All of mine have that little set screw that tightens up on the barrel threads in the receiver.
I do away with them when a new barrel is installed.

They can be a pain to remove. Don't know why they are there.

General consensus is that the rifles that have been available in this country recently are an excellent buy. They frequently need some tweaking, to correct issues that result from indifferent QC. Sloppy barrel indexing is quite common, barrels either being not screwed in far enough, or overtightened. Headspace can be generous. USGI parts are not all that available, because of market demand, and US export controls. It has been common here to take a genuine M-14, and swap all the parts onto the Chinese receiver, to create a first quality rifle that can be used without legal restrictions. A fair quantity of ex-Israeli M-14s was imported a number of years ago.
