Thats what happens when you over load a smokeless muzzle loader
This link is to a disgruntled former Savage employee who was fired notice he wasn't hurt as the gun was in a vice....why was the gun in a vice?.....why is the bulge in the barrel so far forward?....a bulge occures behind the obstruction take a look at those pics thats a whole whack of smokeless powder that was in that gun. 100% staged to make Savage look bad its been proven do some searches. http://www.hpmuzzleloading.com/Alert.html
The other link also looks like a huge over load the bulge is too far forward to be a standard load.....
afaic everybody that shoots front stufers will sooner or later dry ball
or double load. with black powder no big deal as long as no air space
between the projectile and powder.

The large number of users of Savage muzzle loaders speaks to their safety. It does however make each user effectively the equivalent of a reloader, and human error can happen. As they say, accidents can happen, but so can they be prevented.
A friend of mine had one blow up on him too about 2 years ago, I hunted with him for many years using Hawken style black powder guns and he is not one to overload any rifle. He uses pill bottles for his speedloaders with the bullet above the powder on a piece of plastic held in place but the lid so a double charge of bullets or powder would be very obvious. He said he had a lot of rounds through the rifle and that he went by the loads recommended in the Savage manual. Savage tried to blame it on him but in the end they replaced the muzzleloader as long as he promised to keep the pictures off the internet.
