That's exactly why im securing my foot-brace cables with 550 para-cord as an added measure of security. I dont trust those cables after about year two. I can easily and economically replace the para-cord each season.
On a related note: I cringe every time i see hang on stands secured/strapped only by the foot-brace clevis bolt/nut located at rear of the stand. Instead of hooking your tie-downs to the clevis, run that strap completely around your stand's back brace in order to secure it to the tree. I would never rely on just that bolt/clevis for precisely the reason youve outlined in your original post.
