Looking for my first semi 12 gauge for shooting trap and hunting. Something different intreges me. From my little research they seem to be reliable and affordable, just looking for some input. I have found info on both but haven't seen them compared to one another.

Are we talking actual trap or pasture clays? Actual trap both would be several pounds too light to recommend, a trap gun should be at minimum 8lbs, preferably in the 9-10lb range and print a pattern at least 70% above POA.

Guess just pasture clays, I love shooting and don't want to be caught with a gun that won't cycle or something like that. I don't want to spend a bunch of money but still want to play.

Both the guns you mentioned are rough around the edges fit and finish wise. Warranty might be an issue as well.

If you want the cheapest semi-automatic shotgun that is well reviewed as reliable with a solid warranty, may I suggest either the Weatherby SA-08 or the Mossberg 930. I know you didn't ask for suggestions for other shotguns but buy once, cry once!

thank you very much for the input, any advice is good, I have been spoiled shooting a versa max and beretta a400 just can't justify spending that kind of money.

I've also heard the 930 is can be really hit and miss, cycling problems etc are the SAO8's supposed to be any better

930 is known to have some minor quality control problems. Basically, every Mossberg has quality control issues but it's not as bad as people make out. They will fix it under warranty.

The SA-08 has stellar reviews from Randy Wakeman who is arguably a shotgun authority. I trusted his opinion and grabbed one and I'm happy I did. Well made and the dual piston system is great.

Finally got my Derya Carina AS12 out for a shoot today....worked great with the cheapest 2-3/4 Federal 7-1/2, no failures, didn't even look like it had been fired after 50 rounds. Choke tube worked loose so some locktite is in order. So far so good with a $380 semi lol

Do not Loctite the choke tube .put some never seize on the threads and snug it in good and make a habit of checking it every couple shots while your shooting.

without going in the benelli or berretta range price , you can maybe look for a stoeger , semi inertia , i have the m2000 worked nicely before i buy a benelli Vinci , you pay for what you get , the Vinci is in my opinion is nearly perfect ,

in a semi if i have the choice i take inertia over gas operated , inertia is way more simple and faster to clean ,

I have one member that shoots a Benelli SuperSport and a Mossberg 930. If the weather is nice he shoots the Benelli, if the weather isn't so nice he shoots the Mossberg. The only hiccup on the 2 Mossberg 930's that are regularly used at the club is that they have to be kept clean, if they're clean they no issue cycling anything you feed them.

I got my son a Weatherby SA-08 in 20 gauge two years ago, he's put a few hundred rounds through it with zero issues. I was a wee bit surprised seeing as how it only cost me $500, but pleasantly so. Weatherby seems to have their QC down pat...
