Hello Everyone

Does anyone have any experience shooting Wartak re-manufactured 9mm, brass cased, copper jacketed, 124g Luger through a P38 or a P08? I've read some mixed reviews....some praise it as a decent low cost bulk ammo, others claim issues with squibs and to stay far away from it. I will be shooting it exclusively through a '44 cyq P38 and a 1913 DWM P08 but I have been unable to find a review from someone who used it through either firearm. I can get a boxes of 200 rounds at a good price, but I do not want to risk injury to myself, my firearms or be stuck with a box of bad ammo.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Brookwood

For the love of God , why would you feed such a nice Luger garbage ammo. You could SERIOUSLY damage it. I just bought a Luger (restricted length barrel) and it will be eating caviar only. I think if you buy a Ferrari , you shouldn't buy the tires at Walmart. Wartak ammo is among the worst on the market. Squibs and overcharges galore. Buyer beware. If you blow up your Luger, please DON'T post pictures of it here.

I have no personal experiences with Wartak but there is no shortage of negative reviews about it on the net and even on this forum.

I have a '44 Spreewerk P38 and a '15 DWM P08. I've used S&B 124gr from Tradex (18.95/box ..free shipping if you buy a case) that seemed to work fine in them. I've also used 1,000's of rounds of their Centuare remanufactured stuff both 9mm and .38 in various guns...seems to be very good quality ammo.....I've had zero squibs, misfires or overly hot rounds. Tradex has the Centaure 124gr 9mm for 14.95/box. Once again, free shipping on orders of over 1,000 rounds.

Unless you are planning to shoot 1000's upon 1000's of rounds (and why on earth would you in collectible guns) I can't see risking the Wartak over saving a few bucks.

I've heard the Luger toggle-mechanism is susceptible to damage and even catastrophic failure due to overpressure ammo. I don't know I would feed anything other than premium ammo to my Lugers.

Thanks for the info, pretty much confirms what I've read. I have the opportunity to pick up a brick of 200 rounds for $30 a box. BUT, with the high rate of failures, I'll keep walking and stick with what has proven to be safe and dependable for both me and my collectible firearms.

I posted a question a while ago asking about which ammunition is the best for a P08....the conversation somehow went off the rails and I didn't quite get a definite answer. ^ This helps a lot though, much appreciated. It appears you and I have virtually the same firearms, so it is good to hear info from someone with actual experience rather than a speculation.

Thanks again,

Brookwood

I've heard quite the opposite. I hear the toggle is quite strong, the P08 is quite robust. Stronger than a lot of tilt barrel/locked breach designs apparently.

I use the same loads as I use for IPSC in my Luger. 124gr campro hollowpoint, 4gr titegroup, 1.085" COL. They power factor in a hair over 125. Nice and soft shooting. Don't want to damage the gun.

Actually the service load in 9mm for the Luger was extremely hot. The Lugers love hot Ammo, and I have never head about catastrophic failures due to the hot Ammo.

The German service charge was way hotter than any commercial ammo on the market.

The Luger gets pissed on... If it was as bad as people say, why did it stay in service for more than 2 world wars.

Check out the mud tests by InRangeTV... It passes with 100% success. That pistol deserves more credit than it receives.

Try and find a restricted one, I bet you'll love it. :)

As for this thread... What others have said above is correct. Why risk crappy ammo in an expensive and collectible Luger? Feed it nothing but the best. Also for your own safety.

Get some good Ammo... Enjoy your Luger ;) they don't exactly grow on trees.
