Saw a 98k rifle full military that appears to have been drilled, tapped and a civilian scope, mount and rings installed. It's for sale. Sad. I won't comment on asking price, even if it were parted.
I guess a lot of RC's will be customized etc. . I almost hope it was an RC.

I'd rather have a vet bring back enfield for $695;)

Tell me about it.

WTF is with the prices in there lately? Must be the Christmas season.

Seems like only two years ago, most Enfields could be had for between $275 and $400.. now anything below $400 is getting increasingly rare.

You know it's getting bad when I can find cheaper prices at gunshows!

"...a vet bring back Enfield..." The troopies were not allowed to keep their rifle.
"...that appears to have been..." Somebody pretending to have a K98 sniper. Mind you, thousands upon thousands of K98's were turned into hunting rifles after W.W. II.

I was going to say, but Tyler took the words out of my mouth.

Seems like people are worried about money, so looking to get a little extra out of their rifles? I don't remember, but it may have been the same guy that wanted it +shipping and + $6 for emt transfer:rolleyes:

the prices people are asking for guns are nuts. in 1985 i purchased a k98 for 140$ and the gun was and still is mint condition. i got a low serial number also, 43xx. i wanted a nice bolt gun for deer hunting so i had a scope put on the gun and it is very accurate. i cannot understand how prices have gone up so fast in just a few years.

"...cannot understand how prices have gone up so fast..." Simple economics. The demand has increased while the supply has decreased.
1985 is 23 years ago too. The price of everything, except your labour, has gone up in that time.
The value of your K98 has gone up too, but it will not be as high as it would be had you not put the scope on it. It'll still be much higher than $140 though.

It became a $70 gun with the scope. Great way to de-value a gun by adding a scope, wipes out any collector value.

i may have hurt the value, but i still have a original k98 for deer hunting. when i first purchased the gun it had little valve then so i have not lost any money the way i see it.

Prices have gone up - yes.
Supply & Demand usually dictate market prices but in our situation I don't think this is really 100% true. Frankly I think it comes down to what you're willing to pay. Six or Seven years ago milsurps were going for almost half of what they are now. I think our ability to pay a higher price is the bottom line not the availability issue.

You would have to ask the retailing community if they're costs have gone up significantly during this period because I'm not aware of their reality.

Having said that $1000 for a drilled and tapped RC with a tasco scope is insulting.

Rings; 50 bucks at most
Taco scope: 90 bucks at most
Without a a doubt RC rifle: 350 at most
Work: 100: at very most

That totals my estimate at 590.

A 1944 rifle, if its a byf, for an example would be the correct period rifle for a "high-turret" build. But the stock is incorrect. The flip up sights look to be removed! Overall its just a tapped and drilled k98k. So in terms of correct reproduction build, its far off.

Asking 1000 is outrageous, BUT, if i wanted money, and I believed I could get double my money back, then I would do the same. Simple as that.

pot calling kettle...it's almost as insulting as asking mint Lonbranch prices for a beater POF Enfield with a refinished stock, eh? You have got to be one of the worst offenders on the EE when it comes to pricing.
(best part of being on an ignore list, he can't rebut!)

As for the $625 bring-back enfield, it looks like an FTR, with it's 3rd variation cocking piece and rear sight ears...maybe "vet bring back" means Grandpa picked it up at SIR and brought it back home:p

lmao to that

Maybe sentimental value comes into play? ;)

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. I understand customizing the mauser action rifle. But this ain't it! And as for it being a middle of the road collectable milsurp rifle, well it is not that now, either!
It is now a shooter, that's okay but it could have been done differently. "$" well no comment.

I honestly do not understand what your problem with me is. I simply took a cosmolened and dirty POF No4Mk2, cleaned it up, replaced some defective parts for safety purposes and applied some linseed oil to the wood. I even replaced the rack number. I then sold the rifle for what I purchased it for. In fact I lost money on the rifle, not to mention the time I put into it.

Obviously I've removed you from my ignore list. I would appreciate it if you would stop the personal attacks in these public forums. If you want to continue this dialogue and explain what I have done to offend you please pm me. I'm sure there has simply been a failure to communicate and I am more than willing to iron things out with you ollie.

Riflechair.
