was sitting at work with 3 co-worker this morning.
it was nice and quiet so we where telling stories and bragging stuff up.
we got talking about NR 223 rifles and one of the young guys said he was wanting to get one.
2 of us have Ruger Mini 14's and we told him how we enjoy them.

so we decided to take a field trip the whole one block over to the local gun store as i had remembered seeing a Ruger Mini 14 in there last time i was in.
sure enough the same Mini 14 was there.
the young fella was fondling the gun as we where chatting with the guy working and i was expressing my disappointment in the price of the gun.
when i had picked up mine brand new from the same store not 3 years ago i paid $700, today that same rifle is $999.99.
the guy working smiled and said that if i was disappointing now i will be devastated when the next batch comes in.
seeing as that was their last mini 14 in stock they had already placed a order for a couple more..... at a 25% increase in price from the distributor!!

im thankful i got mine when they where cheap.
im sad that it looks like those cheap days are gone.

im starting to think maybe Norinco needs to make a mini 14 knock off.

I have been in the shooting game for over 20 years now and I have seen prices fluctuate up and down. We are coming out of a really good period right now where rifles and ammo were at a really low price point but I remember when I got into shooting I paid $1100 bucks + GST (7% at the time) for a Remingon 700 VS in .22-250. That same rifle probably could be had in last couple of years in around the <$1000 price point. I remember the 700 Police which was highly desirable and they were easily a couple of hundred dollars more - for the last 5 years I have seen them floating from anywhere from 1000-1200 new. My first AR was an Armalite 11.5" which I paid over $1500 bones new at P&D and that was over 15 years ago now you can get one for under $1200. In general the amount of guns available now is incredible and prices will move up and down but for the most part I think prices have been amazing in recent years so it is a bit unrealistic to expect with a devalued dollar for things to remain at the status quo.

OK, so the price of the mini goes up 25% from the distributor. Once the retail markup is also applied to this wholesale price, I get about $1313.00 before tax or about $1483.00 after tax. That's seems like a lot of cash for a mini-14.

I'm happy they're not priced the same as M1As. I am not happy I didn't buy one years ago instead of the su16.

Yup the price of a mini 14 and any other firearm from the US is only going up.I just mounted my ar223 scope on my DA 556 14.5" and could not help but think dam! ! All in taxes rings $900.I also have a 582 series blued mini 14 I bought used and mounted it in a ati stock and put a used 3x9 I had on it,still cost me $1100 and it's a used gun.

Did your friend buy the gun?

yes.
right there and then.
tucked the box under his arm and off to the till to pay for it he went.

i believe we are going to take all our Mini's out this week and try out some Tannerite targets!
that should be fun.
will be my first time shooting reactive targets.
