So I got this shotgun from a guy and I asked if the barrel has been chopped and he says no and its IC choke. Then he says its a factory paint job and that this is how the mossberg tactical shotguns are. Painted with black paint and 24" tactical vent rib barrel and comes with blackhawk synthetic furniture. Anyone want to agree to disagree with all this? I'm thinking the guy is either on crack, just plain stupid or trying to rip people off. Opinions please?? thanks!

So, you are saying "you got this shotgun from a guy" that has an obviously "shortened or modified by means of cutting or otherwise" barrel attached, and you think it's a good idea to make that public knowledge because....????:confused::confused:

f:P:

well he is in quebec...so...lol Anyway he got it from a friend who got it as is. Why would a buddy lie to you? Its a joke and I'm not laughing.....ffs. It is still legal because its over the legal 470mm.... A big mouth should know that.....

Its not illegal to cut down a barrel, he could have gone down almost another 6" shorter, a 30" to 24 is not a big deal, the big deal is that it was represented as a factory length and finished barrel

You have clearly been lied to.
Question is, will you be providing him with negitive feedback or will you do nothing and let him continue to screw CGN members over? Many jerks send crap and back peddle by claiming they didnt know better. Then try to fix their blunder by offering some money back. Save us all the grief and put it in his feedback.

all good guys......thanks for the comments. I hate when I get screwed over intentionally or unintentionally. It happens though! Its up to the other guy to be a man and provide a solution fixing the problem. I will let all cgners know what happens......this is the latest response from the guy.......

"Just got off the phone with the guy. He did admit he got it from a trade and was'nt really interested in a shotgun so he sold it pretty much right away. He assures me that he did not modified the gun in any way he just took it and sold it to me (cuz he knew I was looking for one). In any case I bought this thing for 350$ so I guess I'm the one who got ####ed first right? He does'nt know much of the previous owner nor what he did with the gun ( He don't know a lot about guns, just like me apparently..)
This means round count could be a lot higher then I thought, modifications were probably made by the other(s) owner and much else I don't know about. In any case this leaves me with you having a pretty much unknown shotgun in your possession that I thought was worth 300$ but keeps loosing some value by the second I'm thinking about it. I don't care much about the shotgun really so here's what I suggest. Check with your guy if he's still interested (The gun is still very functional) if so then I'll make it 200$ or what you think it's worth now.
I am terribly sorry for the misunderstanding we had but I really trusted this guy (I've been working with him for couple of years now) It's my mistake, I'm somewhat pissed at him and relieved that you know what your dealing with. Keep me up with the situation and we'll try to work something out.
P-S I'm still curious about the year of fabrication tho

Yep, got that. < 18.5" = restricted. <18" = prohibited. Thanks.

26" overall length is non restricted... barrel length has nothing to do with it other than contributing to overall length. When cutting a barrel it can't be cut shorter than 18" or it will be prohibited... if it's factory, that's ok as long as you maintain 26" overall length to avoid possession of an unregistered restricted firearm.

All is not lost.
Someone could be looking for a trunk monkey.
Toss an extra hundred on the price and stick it in the EE.
Ya need some wrigglerewm.............right?

Read my first post.

I was talking about cutting the barrel and I missed the important information in the OP that it was cut to 24". That's my fault for skimming through it and commenting before reading everything.... Hint. Hint.

I owned a 12.5" DA barrel for my 870 and had a 14" HP-9 for a while too, so I'm well aware of the laws regarding manual action firearms, thanks.

BTW, you can also have a NR centre-fire long gun under 26" OAL. (Ranch Hand is only 24")

The gun is legal.
The cut is clean.
It's a functioning 12ga,-assumption.

$350 sounds like a good deal. You knew it was 24" when you bought it, right. Who cares how it got there, if it was done well.

The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who can not read. Hint Hint.

It almost appears that the end of the rib is loose or not soldered compared to the next
rib riser.
Might need to toast that up and get some silver solder in there?
