Was this barrel cut down or factory short?? Pics inside...

I'd have to agree with others , and while I welcome all dumb questions normally....... looking at a barrel or any other object that states it's length from the factory right on it , in this case 30 inches, and knowing it is physically shorter...... and then needing to ask if it's been cut down , on the internet?
oh wait, I remember now, barrels shrink after long term use of corrosive buckshot........ just soak it in the sink or better yet, run it thru a cycle in the dishwasher...... that'll get it back to 30inch LOL

mods should just lock this one it's really pointless to continue LOL

Come on guys, he wanted someone to agree with his position and our thoughts on what to do. If you want to through insults around go log into your Facebook accounts and have at her. Stop dragging CGN down. This is becoming old. Do us a favor and delete those off topic insults so the rest of us can see how this plays out for him before the thread gets locked.

Also, shortening that barrel ensures it is now a Cylinder (not Improved Cylinder) choke and nothing more unless the owner can see it has been jug-choked and that seems very unlikely.

Ayup.

And given that it will cost as much or more than simply buying a barrel with the choke desired, or better yet, threaded for choke tubes, than it would to get the tube that is on the gun now, threaded to suit them, the best thing to do is to use it as a buckshot barrel and get on with life in general.

You can throw good money after bad, but I try not to.

Count it as the price of an education. Both the gun deal, and the sarcasm.

Cheers

The fact it says full choke on it, and the guy claims it is IC, would show its been cut down, if the 30inch didnt give it away. The other give away is the front bead is not threaded into the last post, but behind it.

So, you are saying "you got this shotgun from a guy" that has an obviously "shortened or modified by means of cutting or otherwise" barrel attached, and you think it's a good idea to make that public knowledge because....????:confused::confused:

f:P:

Because shortening a barrel from 30inches to 24inches is perfectly legal.

Sure I noticed the 30" full choke stamp but strange thing is it looks like the rib is just short of the muzzle.

If it was cut they would be flush.

I still think it was cut, but how would that be without removing the rib to cut, which wouldn't make any sense.

Another thing is the posts for the rib don't look like they are 3" apart.

Using a bandsaw cuts through te rib just fine, done it many times. Chuck it in a lathe after and clean up the end, alows you to set the rib back slightly make it look more more normal. Can be a good machinist and a ####ty refinisher ;)

Not in this case it wasn't, look closer. The barrel and post are definitely forward of the end of the rib.

The rib on the barrels is kind of just slid on. Lossibly have a little pin through mid way. If they are soldered its at the front and back, after nipping the barrel back the rib can shift and move and depending on the temp shrink or expand. Generaly when i cut one back i drill and tap the last lug for the front bead, which holds the rib from moving.
