Still a great movie. I didn't pick up any obvious miscues except some of the fighting vehicles were a bit 'new' for the film!:D

Good story and I find the seen where Anna is shot, still pretty raw! Although I don't remember, I was only 14, it must have made quite a commotion at the time!

You've got to ove David Niven, so comedic in the early scenes and then he slowly becomes more jaded and disgusted. One of his better roles in my opinion.

I think there is a sequel to this with Harrison Ford, Force10 or something. I think I have that flick in my DVDs somewhere. I have not gotten around to getting Guns of Navarone yet, it is indeed a good flick for its age ;)

I've always enjoyed the WWII fictions (later movies) authored by Alistair Maclean.

Some of the other books (different authors) made into movies like Cross of Iron or movies Stalingrad, Das Boot etc I wouldn't mind watching again.

Still, "A Bridge too Far" (except for Ryan O'neal ) was far better, and "Saving Private Ryan" got the closest to reality.:(

Best series, "Band of Brothers"

True. You'd also need to consider the fact that due to advancement of technology it is also now possible to portray images in a more realistic manner via use of special effects. More attention to detail is emphasized as well from what I have observed so far.

I was recently able to pick up a almost new VHS set of Band of Brothers for just $10+tax from the local Blockbuster as they are no longer renting those out :D

HBO = Kick Ass
BBC = Kick Ass

HBO+BBC=Band of Brothers and Rome.

(Kick Ass)^2

Wasn't it a dam? If not, in what movie did they blow up a dam from the inside? :redface:

Dam.......objective was to neutralize the German formation (via flooding) preparing to assualt Tito's partisans.

Someone mentioned it but I need to agree, A Bridge Too Far is by far he best WWII movie out there, as far as accuracy and preformance goes. Cornelius Ryan's book was brilliant.

Watched the Guns of Navaronne a week ago. A very war flick for its time. many of them were kinda cheesy.

Tae Guk Gi is probably the BEST war movie I have seen. It is hellishly long, but is EXCELLENT. The cinematics are as good as saving private ryan or better at times. very good action flick, but in the end it is very humbling. you come to realise the difficulties of wars, sucha s the Korean war, where brothers often fought one another. I HIGHLY recommend it. BTW, has anyone seen "The Winter War"? It is in finnish, from 1992, and is apparently an excellent movie. havent found it in any video stores though.

I see on the credits that General Fritz Bayerlein was one of the consultants for the movie. I guess that is why the german soldiers looked so efficent!

Hi,I have a copy of "The winter war".A super movie!highly recomended.
I seen an interview with steven spielburg about Saving private ryan.He mentioned the Winter war in the interview.He said it was one of the most realalistic war movies he ever saw.I bought a copy the next day.
Cheers,Eric

Agreed. Gun of Navarone is indeed old time WW2 classic, together with 633 Squadron, 12 o'clock high, The Eagle has landed, Tora Tora & a few others. Bring back lots of childhood memories.

It's great to hear this - I loved that movie, and nobody else has heard of it. I would highly recommend it.
