the cong( and the plural is still cong) were equipped with "anything they could lay their hands on" they were a guerrila organisation, and picked up their arms wherever - they got russian/chinese sks, m1s that they captured /stole from marvin, arisakas, all kinds of of russian and french equipment- basically, if they could carry it, and had ammo, they used it- there are pictures with springfield 03s in cong hands- the nva, on the other hand, was well supplied with the ak

...there's 138 minutes of your life you'll never get back!
I'm the first one to cut Mel a little slack these days when everyones ripping on him, but Jeezus that movie sucked b@llsack! :p
Now that I added something of quality to the thread I will promptly scurry off...

During one of my deployments with the US Army, I was presenting a proposed operation as one of the planners. We called the landing zones for the air assault X Ray, Yankee and Zulu. When I said X Ray, there was a gasp and silence. The Comd said, he would explain it to me after but "no landing zone is ever called X Ray". After the O Group he explained about the battle that is pictured in "We were soldiers", and what happened afterwards. The troops that relieved Moore's aka Mel in the move were nearly wiped out in a series of ambushes and attacks. LZ Albany is also verbotten.

It is an OK movie, great book. It becomes even more interesting when you meet people that fought in the battle. Like Hamburger Hill, once you meet the vets from 3/187 it changes everything. I met one of the company comds, platoon commanders and the battery commander who fired 22 000 rounds firing in support.
