Water-base lube rusting die

I just took apart one of my dies to clean it & noticed that the threads on the decapping rod were all rusted . Would water-based lube be causing this?

What brand of dies are you using and which lube?

Never occured to me before but I would bet that the water based lube would be at least part of the problem.

Going to have to pull a couple of dies apart and take a look though its so dry in this part of the world you almost have to work at getting things to rust.

the water based lubricant might not cause that......but it won't prevent it.

I have to oil all my dies because of a hummid basement/ reloading area!!

I use Lee water base - but I don't put em away wet - dry em out good before they go back in the box. Not sure if that's the answer or not. Probably best to clean after each use before storage - but I have not to date.

I stopped using water based lube for the same reason.

I now use Fluid Film which in not only a great rust preventer, it is also a great case lube.

I spray it on a micro fiber cloth and roll the cases on it. It works great and you don't have to worry about the dies.

yikes , I better check mine since I use the Lee water based lube

I have lots of dies from different manufacturers. The one I found the rust on was an RCBS, & the lube I used was Lee's.
