Hi everyone,

Looking for the option to get rid steel shotgun shells and try to use older 2 3/4" with fixed chokes barreled shotgun :). Do not like to destroy it - top barrel has full choke.

Read some opinions about heavy shot and bismuth loads. It looks like geese would be hit by #2 from 2 3/4"pellets with even better success and less lost birds than with steel BB from 3" shells :)

Anyone used it? Is it true?

Which one would you recommend to buy and where near GTA?

Thanks.

If your barrel is not steel rated Hevi-Shot is not to be used in it. As stated by hevi-shot themselves. You are left with bismuth, some of the nickle/tungsten shells, and some other shot types. I've been looking into reloading some shells for my buddy with an older gun not steel shot rated. I've been trying to source ITX shot to try for it. As dense as lead and almost the same hardness so is good in old barrels.

Bismuth, tungsten-polymer, and Nice Shot are your options. I don't believe nickel-tungsten is considered safe. ITX and NIce Shot may be the same thing.

Will Bilozir in Calgary had some nice shot, and I believe now has bismuth, as well. Be prepared to pay through the nose for it, something like $60/kg.

I stopped using my valuable, fixed choke guns for hunting waterfowl and went with a new shotgun.

It is cheaper than buying no-tox type shot. I was using Kent tungsten polymer, which are great, but at $35 for 10 rounds, it became cheaper for me to buy a semi auto just for hunting. Was also reloading bismuth, but, as above, 7lb of bismuth was $150 to $200. (7lb is 112 oz of shot, so it doesn't go very far)

I will be putting removable chokes into the shotgun, but because the barrels are thin, I don't want just anyone doing the job, so that isn't cheap either....
