I've just read that Wayne Mayes, quite possibly the best Skeet shooter there has ever been, has passed away finally succumbing to his injuries.

American Skeet has lost a great friend, an unsurpassable talent, and most importantly a true gentleman.

We will miss you!

As per Wayne’s wishes, there will be no memorial service.

Wayne touched the lives of countless friends and fellow shooters, and we would like to share your remembrances of good times spent with him. As was often the case with Wayne, you may have had a funny experience, or you may have simply been awed and inspired by watching him shoot. If you have a story that you’d like to share in our tribute to Wayne, please send it to Sherry Kerr, skerr@nssa-nsca.com"

Damn. A very sad end to a very storied career.

I was lucky enough to shoot with Wayne one time in Detroit. I arrived late for doubles and there were only two spots left on the last squad, one of which was on Wayne's squad. I jumped at the opportunity to shoot with one of the greatest shooters ever. Wayne welcomed me to the squad as I walked out on the field. It didn't work out well for my score. I was nervous as hell and don't think I felt my gun on my face until 4 or 5 stations in.

I saw Wayne in San Antonio last year. He loved entertaining a crowd, telling bad jokes all day long. He would talk to anyone.

The skeet world has lost a legend.

Brad.
