We built our 1,000 yard range tonight, will run the LRB and the Garand

Direct as ever I see. :D

It's a long time ago in fairness to him and memory is fallible, but that would be above the capabilities of the equipment and issue ball by good measure in my opinion.

Hey, we're slaves to the same master again. I'm sure you recognize where our range is... :)

Best guess would be the old Paddy Airstrip. I've had a couple memorable experiences on that airstrip when it rains. Hard to keep a plane straight......

You're a winner without a prize, yep Paddy. She's a fine composition of snot, grease, and superglue when wet. There's what amounts to a seasonal creek cut through it these days, seen better days.

hi Ardent
excellent shootin !!

off topic... i've been thinking about changing my tired barrel on the garand to a kreiger barrel... are there others of same quality.. ( does douglas compare ? ) and who in Canada does good work to changem out

great post

You can order the barrels through Mystic Precision / Jerry Teo, and I haven't used him but I hear Casey at Tac Ord frequently mentioned. I've spoken with Casey and he certainly seems to know his stuff and is just plain a nice & helpful fellow. I don't think anything compares to Krieger, they're not only in the top two or three in standard / bolt action barrels they're without question the best in prefit M1 / M14 barrels. But unless you're chasing the fine line, not likely to see a difference over a Criterion say (made in partnership with Krieger, but button rifled).

You could also install it yourself and use a pull through reamer, it's not that tough and the tools are readily available.

thanks Ardent
yes, i've seen the reamer

haven't bought any kriegers... but do have some shillen selects m on my rem700

thanks again for the recommendations, and that is the route i'll go

i'm part way through putting new springs in her and tastefully redo-ing the stock ... may aswell do it right

Ocassionally the kriegers draw up hand tight in that magic zone but yes, Ardent is correct, most often a 1 degree undercut is required to afford a proper shoulder. Very simple task with the lathe but a pain if you don't have one.
Lately I've had issues with Criterion barrels not having enough shoulder... Back to the lathe again to roll swage the metal back towards the threads. Here's where some experience.... And a lathe with swaging set up are essential.
Krieger's are hard to beat when yer building a long range rifle... Seldom are results less than expected.
We're putting up targets out back as soon as huntin season winds down. 300, 500 and 1000M. This winter is gonna literally be a blast :D
