We Got Shims

All of you M14 lovers, get jumping on this deal if your gas cylinder rattles like a Christmas bell collar.

You will never find a better deal in Canada or the USA for that matter. Just buy a set RFN (read: right now) and worry about the installation later. This shim kit will tighten up your loose (factory designed that way) gas cylinder assembly and eliminate the rattling effect of a gas gun.

One of the cheapest upgrades you can make to your Norinco-Plinko.

Jerry is a great guy and a very valuable M14 resource person on the CGNutz community.

Loosen the set screw, back off the castle nut, put a block against the lug and give it a good whack with a ball peen. Mine popped right off the welds. Finished unscrewing the nut and slid the whole works off with no damage to anything.

For those where the simple whack does not take off the flash hider, there is another way.

Just loosen the gas cylinder and move it forward slightly. Cut the shim at a 45 deg and open it to slide over the barrel. You can then retighten the gas cylinder. I have been nervous about the shim moving over time but have not had any negatives using this method so far. Seems to work and eases the need to risk damage to the FH and sight.

Can't think of any reason why the shim would move. It is securely clamped under the gas cylinder. This seems to be a great idea.

It's good to know that my idea of placing the shim without removing the FS was figured out by mysticplayer. Anyone have a gas nut wrench dusting away?
