Weak Ejection

My Norc sometimes ejects brass out to the front around the end of the barrel (normal) and other times it just drops the round right outside the ejection port. This is with factory Hornady 150gr Whitetail ammo. Is this normal or do I need to do something with the ejector?

Interesting - i have greased all the correct areas with tetra gun grease and use slip EWL on the op rod spring & guide....must be something else....? I will tear down my Norc and completely re-grease but I would be surprised if under-greasing was the problem. I have not re'greased the roller on the charging handle for close to 100 rounds so that is the only area that could be suspect? I doubt it however. Other "google" searches comment on ejector spring strength so that is another area to target.

I have never fired ball ammo (assuming you mean fmj's) through the rifle. I was able to tighten the gas plug somewhat, but have yet to take a shot to test. I am now sending it away to get the barrel cut back to 20" or 18.5" so won't be able to test until I get it back. I hope cutting the barrel back does not add to the ejection issue!!

I would think you should be ok, as long as you don't cut it past the gas port... :nest:

I have had second thoughts on cutting the barrel back (I have been going back and forth on this modification). I'm not going to save much weight at all by cutting it back, I will lose the front sight and will undoubtedly have an increased muzzle blast. Additionally, I may reduce any potential re-sale value by taking away the front sight. So, off to the range (ok, actually the back paddock) later today to see if the weak ejection has been solved by tightening the gas plug, checking that all areas are properly greased and smoothing the mag followers.
