Weak hand shooting

When I shoot weak hand only my point of impact moves about 5 inches to the left. This is pretty repeatable, I can get good accuracy if I'm shooting a .22 so it's not a flinching problem with the .40.

Is this normal? Do people just aim-off to compensate?

I'm guessing you're left handed and shooting weak hand means right handed.

I've heard that it's normal. A lot of people shoot weak hand with the gun slightly canted/tilted. The more you tilt, the more you tend to push the gun over.

I only find it happens for me if I'm sloppy with the trigger or rushing.

IF you are doing it perfect (which no one usually does, including myself), it should not be impacting that far off. But, what do you usually group two handed at that distance, your strong/weak hand at 10y will open up in grouping size, but if you can isolate the trigger finger movement from the grip, and watch the front sight lift as the shot goes off, than you are doing everything you can. Why not try benching it weak hand/strong hand.....See if it improves any.
Usually, I go to fast and jerk some shots off to a C or D. Something I have to work on.

If you're right handed, check to make sure the gun is properly aligned in your grip. The bore axis should aim at your elbow when you let your arm hang at the side...basically along the axis of the forearm bones. Check to make sure that you are triggering correctly. The surface of the trigger should rest on the last digit of the finger at the point (roughly) just under the cuticle of the nail. If you have too much finger on the trigger you could be pulling it to the right and that will steer your muzzle. Prep, squeeze and follow through. Trigger slapping (letting the finger come off the surface of the trigger on reset) will exacerbate horizontal muzzle displacement.

If you are left handed, check bore axis alignment as before, and finger placement should be the same. Trigger prep is the same, but also check to make sure your triggering finger is not rubbing on the frame of the gun on the right side. This will also steer the muzzle.

Now check to make sure you are not "clenching" as you fire the gun in an effort to control recoil. With either hand you should try for a firm but not hard, consistent grip pressure. Do not press down on the safety with your thumb...just let it rest there. Let recoil happen since you won't be able to win that fight anyway.

Also, what are you seeing in your sight picture? Are you canting the gun towards your master eye, or are you cross-dominant? Both eyes open? Any double vision or ghosting?

If all this fails, You have demons. Call an exorcist.

Good luck.

First of all it's support hand.

Secondly try canting the gun 15 - 20 degrees towards the center of your body. This helps most people.

Thanks Guys, sorry for the delay but I've been out of the country in business. I'll put these tips into practice and see if I get any better :)

BTW I was accosted in a store once and accused of being 'sinister' by someone who saw me signing a credit card slip left handed. When I said 'pardon?' he further explained to me that left handed people were the 'spawn of the devil' so maybe Relliott is onto something here.......

Of course the local mental heath unit was trying a 'Care in the Community' program at the time and given that gents appearance and the fact he ran off when the store clerk said 'Calm down Brian' maybe the program wasn't working out that well.......
