I'm not sure what I did to my right wrist in the past but whatever happened I now have a pain that occasionally surfaces (2-3 times a month). Whenever it does I take it easy for a few days and it's gone within 48 hours.

My question is do any of you use wrist supports while you shoot IPSC/IPDA? I'm worried that shooting a large number of rounds each day will agitate my wrist, but it looks so exciting that I won't deny myself the pleasure of the shooting sport. Right now I'm planning to lightly wrap my wrist with a constrictive bandage which I hope won't interfere too much with my grip.

Sounds like Carpal-tunnel syndrome.......I have it in both my wrists, aggravated by just about anything, including a long day at the range.

I wear a wrist wrap, and take a couple of anti-inflammatories (Advil). Usually takes care of any pain for a short period of time.

Don't they make one piece soft braces for wrist issues like cts.

It just slides over your hand so you don't have to wrap your wrist with a tensor bandage.

Damn, I'm only 19 and it's likely CTS... Add to that my job as a warehouse worker and I suppose I should be lucky to only have flare ups 2-3 times a month.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm assuming using any sort of brace wouldn't clash with IPSC/IPDA rules?

Thanks for the link Stormbringer, I'm going to order one of those to strengthen my wrists.

CTS is not a big deal. I'll be having the surgery in a year or two. a coworker just got his right hand done, 3 weeks and he's almost back to 100% and pain free, with a better working hand.

If you are allergic to scalpels ask your Dr. for a script for MELOXICAM. One of those little sweethearts does me for up to a week. It is the best anti inflammatory I have tried.

I had extreme tendonitus in both wrists from the work I do as a scaffolder.
(It at one time was incorrectly diagnosed as CTS BTW!)
One day a the the chiropractor's office I mentioned it, and in about 2 minutes the pain was gone!!
He explained to me that the bones and tendons in there are no different that in one's back, and can be adjusted as such.
I used to wear a wrist brace on my hammer hand constantly, but after that and a tune up once a month or so, rarely used it again.

Been off the tools now for a few years , but if I do go back to them , I'll likely use a brace for a bit, just to be sure.

Perhaps a little strengthening of the supporting structures might help. Years ago when my Dad had his hand crushed in a mining accident, he rehabilitated it using...believe it or not...a sheet of news paper. Just hold it out from the body, and starting at one corner use only your fingers to gather it all in and crumple it into a nice tight little ball. First time out it's not easy to do, but man, I've never met anyone with more powerful hands in my entire life! And his fingers started out so badly crushed that they were going to amputate.

I KNEW the Toronto Star was good for something.
