That's what I was figuring roughly, its topped with a leupold vari x 3 3.5 to 10 as well. Certainly an older scope but would I be looking at around 200 for the scope and rings?

A Vari-X III 3.5-10X40 in excellent condition goes for around $300, VX-III 3.5-10X40 @ $400, VX-3 3.5-10X40 @ $500... the scoped rifle in excellent condition should start around $1200 IMO.
