Weatherby Orion Upland

I do not own one of these guns, but have handled them. They were introduced in 1982, made by the Japanese firm SKB.

The Orion is a basic boxlock. The frame is a steel forging. Bolting is by way of a Kersten top lock. The bearing faces of the crossbolt and barrel lugs are tapered to accommodate wear.

SKB makes good guns, better in design and handling than the Red Label IMHO. Some people find the stock dimensions of the Orion difficult to use, but the same could be said of any shotgun on the market. Shoulder the gun and see how it fits. Small adjustments can be made easily, but if it is way off for you, try one of the Franchi models.

Weatherby Shotguns

I have several Weatherby O/U's -- have had Red Label in 20 Ga -- If the Weatherby fits you, that is the one to buy - will last you a lifetime. Cheers!

I had a 20ga Orion Upland from Russells last year. Well made/balanced. Gloss.

Also picked up an older SKB 500 (fixed chokes) in mint condition with nice engravings and satin stock. Apart from the cosmetics and fixed chokes the two could almost be twins. I had since then traded the Orion for a 12ga Beretta.
