It's false...but he/she probably ment that Weatherby cartridges are unique designs and not interchangeable with others...which is correct. That means you can't use a .300 Winchester Magnum cartridge in a .300 Weatherby Magnum rifle or vice-versa.
Both these guys are correct. Weatherby makes some mean cartridges for their rifles though! .224 and .257 I'm told a pretty great. Only probably is you can expect to get fisted on ammo prices.
so if a weatherby rifle is chambered for a cartridge made specifically by weatherby it will only shoot that cartridge,,but lets say its chambered for a rem 223 it will shoot any ammo,

The manufacturer of the ammo is of little importance as long as said ammo matches the one stamped on the barrel. There are a few exception to the rule but pretty much every current production rifle will be stamped in the same manner as the print you'll find on the ammo boxes.
