A while back Weatherby had a recall on some of their rifles bolt shroud.
Any one have a photo they could post to view the updated shroud?
Or maybe a linkie-pooh?
My Gewgle-Fue taint working for some reason..............

Re: Vanguard Recall.

It's old news, but still important to new users of the forum!

Important Safety Notice Regarding Weatherby’s Vanguard Rifle

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

VANGUARD® BY WEATHERBY RIFLE

Weatherby, Inc. of Paso Robles, California, is performing a safety upgrade on all Vanguard® by Weatherby brand rifles manufactured between the years 1970 to 1993.

The affected rifles bear serial numbers from one of the following series on the receiver: 00001 through 03810; V00001 through V80966; VX00001 through VX44065; VS00001 through VS23699; VL00001 through VL46984; W0001 through W0099; NV0001 through NV0099. The safety upgrade will replace the bolt sleeve to prevent misassembly of the bolt, which might occur on the affected rifles. Such misassembly might result into a hazardous condition in which the rifle can be accidentally discharged without the bolt being fully engaged, causing severe injury.

Warning, If you own a Vanguard® by Weatherby rifle with a serial number from one of the serial number series referred to above: USE OF YOUR RIFLE MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT AND SEVERE INJURY. STOP USING YOUR RIFLE IMMEDIATELY and click on this link http://www.weatherby.com/vanguardsafety/registration to receive a Bolt Return Kit. Only the bolt sleeve is being upgraded. Your bolt will be returned to you after the upgrade. If you do not have web access, call Weatherby at 1-800-227-2018 to receive a Bolt Return Kit.

NO OTHER WEATHERBY RIFLES ARE AFFECTED. CHECK YOUR SERIAL NUMBER.

The affected rifles were originally sold through licensed gun dealers nationwide, and some of them may have been resold by the original owners through retail gun dealers, trade shows or privately. If you have sold, traded or given away an affected Vanguard® by Weatherby rifle, it is important for you to forward this Safety Notice to the current owner.

Weatherby apologizes for any inconvenience to its customers resulting from this safety upgrade program, but it is important that owners of affected rifles take advantage of this free upgrade program and do not use an affected rifle before it has been upgraded. All work will be done at the factory at no charge. Return the bolt only, not the entire rifle. Please do not return your Vanguard® by Weatherby bolt to the factory before contacting us at either http:weatherby.com/vanguardsafety/registration or 1-800-227-2018 for your Bolt Return Kit.

Hope this public service announcement doesnt go against the rules.

I had a bad experience with one let's say [ kaboom], if you turn the existing bolt shroud to disengage it so the firing pin is protruding and the bolt will almost lock up it is bad and has not been upgraded.
If it has been replaced the bolt will stop short of touching a round in the chamber by an inch about.

Okay, I called Weatherby and got told it wasn't dun.......damnnitt.
Called Ellwood Epps and they're closed on Mundays.
And to think I had a Weatherby warranty guy a coffee's throw away.
Dang dang ..........dubble dangdang.

That's where mine went to Friday. They said they have the parts in stock to do the upgrade.Shipping is supposed to be on Weatherby's dime, though I had the wife drop mine of.Was told it will be mailed back as soon as it is done.

Had a Smith & Wesson done a couple years ago was reasonably painless just took a few weeks. Called the number they sent a shipping box I shipped the bolt on their dime they sent it back fixed. Seems to me it was about 3 weeks.

Thanks Hawk.

Hi,
Got the bolt back today. What was replaced was the shroud covering the rear of the bolt.My original one also never had S and F marked on the shroud where this one has it.
Turn around time was pretty quick IMO.
If you still need a pic I can post it,but got to figure out how to do it.My laptop crashed so I'm using a Chrome Book right now.Guess I have to upload the pics and then download.
Maybe this will help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnHbRc-gsDI

Update, I sent Weatherby four photos.
One was of the bolt showing the serial number.
Two was of the bolt packaged up with the postage stamp/sticker on it.
Three was a photo of the packaged up box showing the postage cost along
with the portion of the Canada Post receipt.
Fourth was of the serial number of said rifle.
I get a reply that the gal there wishes for a photo the complete Canada Post receipt.
I typed an ear full.
Can't believe how #*&!*$&! folks can be.
Told her to get Epps to mail in the stamp on the package I sent them along with their
invoice for said warranty repairs.
No wonder Jennings pulled the plug on this company.
I'm going to think twice whether I continue to support this company.
$16.05 of freight that is supposed to be refunded me and they are getting pizzy about it?
Heck, I even used my VentureOne for a discount and shipped it snail mail.
Maybe next time I'll hire Allibubbah and send him on a taxi road trip and submit that bill?
