I've always wanted a good quailty side by side in 28 g.
I'm currently looking at a Weatherby Athena with double triggers and an Engish style stock. Its new in the box/case and looks really nice. it fits me well.
However, I'm just doing research on these as my understanding is they are made in Italy, perhaps by Rizzini?
If anybody has experience, good or bad, with these shotguns, I'd be gratefull.
The MSRP seems to be north of $3000 in the US but this one is on sale here for $1999. Seems like a good deal but I'd like to know more as I'll likely never buy another 28 SxS.
Thanks

Hello John, sorry I cannot help you with your request. You could try a post on the 28 Gauge Society web site someone there may be able to help.

Made by Stefano Fausti I believe. I think Weatherby is cutting ties with Fausti so it could explain the big discounts as of late on Weatherby shotguns.

It is made by Fausti, but crap that's a good deal!:D

Is Fausti one of the Rizzinis? Not that i know anything, just been looking around on the computer.
So, 1999 should be a decent deal? Nothing wrong with Fausti guns?
It sure is a nice looking gun :)

I don't see a lot of the weatherbys around but i see Epps has an Athena PG 20 g on for over $3800 and they are usually quite competive on pricing. So, at $2000 , you could likely recover your money qite quickly if you decided to sell it. If you decide not to get the gun, I'd be interested to know who might be selling.

Omne of the Fausti girls is married to a Rizzini (Fabio) who happens to own E. Rizzini, and those guns are made in the Fausti plant now. fausti themselves build very fine SXS and O/U guns, the three ladies run the show for their father now, Stefano, who is likely sitting back enjoying life!
Another Rizzini( Isadoro) owns FAIR shotguns, and Ii have owned many of them - still do actually!!
Both FAIR and Fausti do a big business in manufacturing guns for distributoers like Savage, Weatherby, Interarms, and others.
They are good quality guns, no doubt about it, they are marketed under different names however....

If memory serves, somewhere around 2007/2008(?) Cabelas was selling a bunch of the Weatherby D'Italia model (Fausti make), mainly sub-gauges at very reduced prices. I believe the 28s are/were all built on a 20 frame. However, I also remember quite a few among those as advertised as the same weight as the 12s. The few currently visible 28s at Cabelas list 6+lbs.

To the OP - asking out of curiosity, what is the weight of the 28ga specimen that you are looking at?
