So, I've narrowed my search for a 270 down to one of these two, I've shot the Browning, very nice gun as far as I can tell but not the vanguard 2. Are the vanguard 2's even available here yet? Anyone tried one out?I know the browning is more money but once you add the detachable mag to the Weatherby the difference isn't all that much to get it on a level playing field. Thoughts, dealers, prices???

Im not overly a fan of either.

Not sure about the Vanguard 2's but the older ones definately needed the trigger replaced ASAP.

I've recently shot a friends Xbolt in 25-06 but didnt really care for it. Other than the rotory magazine, there wasnt one thing I could point at that I really didnt like.

It just wasnt a rifle that caught my attention.

I know that the older vanguards shot very well but they had the monte carlo stock design that seems to be a love/hate item.

I have both a vanguard synthetic and a x-bolt stainless. The vanguard is a nice rifle for the price but i fell that the x-bolt is superior in every way.The stock design on the x-bolt is also much better(i'm gonna change the stock on my vanguard for a bansner because the weatherby stock doesn't fit me and its really square on the bottom something that I don't like)

The x-bolt is glass bedded at the factory. It's one process that just doesn't need to be done after. I have never seen an x-bolt that doesn't shoot well. 60 degree bolt lift, an adjustable and crisp trigger. One thing is that the x-bolt trigger doesn't really go below 3lbs which,to me, is a downside. I love light triggers. Browning's duratouch synthetic stocks are awesome. They are very durable and even after a few knocks on the safe, they show absolutely no marks. The recoil pads on the x-bolts are also well made and absorb a lot of recoil. I own 2 x-bolts and although they are pricey, they have never disappointed me.
Beware of people that give advice simply because "they have one". Do your research and homework to make an informed decision. I am sure the Weatherby's are great rifles but I have never owned one. I am not going to tell you which rifle to buy just make sure you know what you want before forking out the $$$.
Here's a picture of my favorite load for my .223 x-bolt.

Not to play devil's advocate but my Vanguard (series 1) has a trigger that breaks like a glass rod at around 4-5 pounds. Its a .270 and it is a very accurate rifle, personally I love it.

Nice grouping Jeromeo...

When you find someone with good stock of series 2's, let us admirers know. I could see a 30 cal in my arsenal someday... I looked at the x-bolts, and the machining seems cheap - is it just me?

Not bad for a varminter in a poodle shooting cartridge, I think you could improve that with a plain jane stalker in a magnum..............................................

Ok so here's my fluke group from Thurs. at the range sighting in my new load for my X-bolt in 300 wsm using a IMR 4350, and a 168g ttsx. Range was 200m shot off my bulls bag, measures 1/4" so that should be about 1/8moa by my math :D

Didn't duplicate it, but no groups went over 1/2 moa at 200m although I opened her up at 300m, but was standing and resting on sheet of plywood.

Rifle is the plain jane stalker with a VX-III 2.5-8 mounted in the factory talleys.
