So I was up in Saskatoon today and traded off a rifle of mine for this new Weatherby Vanguard in .270 wsm and boy am I impressed with this gun
.
First and foremost I got the cal. I wanted and did not have to settle for something I didnt really want. The store had all the dies, brass, shell holders ect.. which was nice to see knowing that deer season is here and the .270 is so popular in Sask.
My next surprise was when the saleman open the box and I saw a glimpse of the target
Near 1/2 inch group, sub moa. Ive heard the internet chatter that all good shooting Vanguards get sold as the Sub MOA version which retails for $300 more, not this one and saw a few more that shot just as well in the store
After seeing the target I had to shoulder and inspect the rifle and its really a nice little gun. Waaay nicer than a Savage, not full of plastic parts like Tikka and shoots better then both for less money. Weatherby must have done some work on its trigger because this breaks nice and clean, no creep and is set at a good weight for hunting. The stock has nice Weatherby lines and the composite is pretty decent, no sharp edges, good checkering.
These Vanguards sell for $539 or something round there and is a few bucks more then a Savage and quite abit less then a Tikka. Anybody looking for the perfect economy rifle I think these Vanguards are one of the best if not the best.
Heres the complete set-up
