Just purchased the last one in stock from Wholesale. What's your thoghts on this firearm and cartridge??

Oh man, you should have asked earlier! Now it's too late!:D

Great rifles, I am sure you will be pleased. I generally like heavy for caliber bullets, which is not the forte of the .300 WSM. BUT, with the premium bullets that are out there, there is probably not too much need for anything over 180gr anyways.

Both the Vangaurd and the 300WSM have been discussed many times here.
They are both extremely popular and I think the majority of the members here would not find fault with your choice.
Good shooting... your gonna love it!:)

I can't speak for the Vangaurd, I have never handled one, a bit heavy perhaps, i think they weigh 7 3/4lbs.
I have a 300 WSM and am a big fan, mines a browning.

Teh 300WSM is a great cartridge.

Some thinik that it is poor with heavier bullets, and of course heavier bullets in all the cartridges slow down the velocity. Even the 300WM has the heavier bullets 'intrude into the case capacity"

But thankfully, we now have high perfoprmance bullets, so there really is no need to use the heavier cup and core bullets.

Heavy for caliber bullets have usualy been used (in hunting) for deep penetration, but a .308 168gr TSX will EASILY outpenetrate a regular 200 gr bullet, anyway.

You will get enough penetration with a 165-180gr prmium bullet in a .30 cal to do anything that a 30 cal bullet should be asked to do;)
