Hi
I’m thinking of purchasing my first centre fire in 223 for target shooting, anybody handled this rifle? I would like a Tikka but buying the rifle and the the chassis would be a bit above my budget.

Thanks

Consider twist rates, you'll want something spinning 1:9 or faster for best results with 68-69gr bullets or 1:8 for 75-77gr bullets (generally, my 1:9 works well with 75's). If you want a Tikka, buy one. There's no requirement to stick one into a chassis in order for it to shoot well, especially if you are starting out.

Don't need to put a Tikka in a chassis to make one shoot superbly. And if you want a 1lb crisp target trigger pull it costs $15 and 3 minutes of your time.

A Weatherby is one of the most under rated firearms out there I have the vanguard in 240wby excellent quality
If you ever got tired of that stock you could always put it into a used vanguard stock with a hinged floor plate.

I say go for it

How have you found the barrel on the Weatherby for target shooting? I'm ideally looking for a Howa 1500 / Weatherby Vanguard in .223 but right now I can only find a Weatherby Vanguard which seems a bit light for repeat target shooting. I'm still new to this so maybe I'm over-thinking the need for a varmint/heavy barrel for target shooting.
