Howdy boys,
I've got a weatherby vanguard, black stock, blued action. Plain Jane as can be. Was wondering if anybody had some low cost ideas for a personal customization? It's a nice gun and shoots like a laser beam, just want it to look more.. "Interesting" :p

A Boyds stock, home bedding job and a trigger job would be a good start. Not a bad finish either. Put a couple hours into it and you won't even recognize your rifle.

Awhile back some of the bigger outfits were blowing out the first series Vanguards for a bit over 300 bucks. Swapping into Boyds stocks was close to a national sport for awhile. It isn't as cost effective now on new ones at todays price, but since you already have yours you are solidly in the game.

I would have to agree that adding a quality stock would be a great start. Tagged for interest. I am anxious to see how your project turns out. Please post pics as you work on it!

What caliber is it? I personally would customize it with a Zeiss Diavari 3.5-10X42 if it were mine...........as long as it isn't a 270.......then I would customize it with a new barrel in a GOOD caliber/cartridge, like 6.5 X 284 or 280 Rem, or anything but a 270........likely a 234 Penguin.

+1 on the glass upgrade if you can afford to spend 4 times the rifle's value on a scope.
I'm sensing someone had a bad experience with a certain cartridge...

I've got a Mark 4 on one of mine. When the 300 dollar guns start out-shooting the 2000 dollar guns it starts seeming warranted . When it out-shoots a 4000 dollar rifle its not funny anymore.

The best I can suggest have already been mentioned, new stock of your choice and good glass. As far as I'm concerned the trigger is more than fine as is.

The triggers on the S2s are good. The old ones varied between OK and terrible. They do respond to a stone rather well. Timney does make a replacement, but I never found they were any better then a worked over original.

I will post my vanguard after I get my new boyds stock and bed it. I also adjusted the trigger through some DIY gunsmithing and it is much more crisp now.
