Not sure if this post should be in Optics vs. Gear & Accessories!

Anyhow, up to this point I've always stuck with Leupold/Redfield rings & bases for my sporting/hunting guns & TPS rails/rings for my "tactical" stuff. After a bad experience years ago with some really badly finished Weaver rings, I had sworn them off.

However, was visiting my local gun store the other day and saw their rack of new Weaver products. The Grand Slam rings look to be very well made & finished. I like the square bar on the bottom better than the older round style. That said, does anyone know if you can mix and match old style bases with new Grand Slam rings, or do you have to have both the Grand Slam Rings & Bases?

I've got a number of older style Weaver bases to fit the Remington 700, so I was wondering if they would work if I picked up a set of Grand Slam rings to try for curiosities sake?

I've had the Weaver GS rings and the Burris Zs. Both are solid rings, but the Burris have a way nicer finish. The Weavers looked like rough castings, and have done away with the thumb screw on the side.

I just bought a set of Leupold PRW (weaver style, all steel) rings. I haven't tried them yet, but they are the nicest (looking) of the bunch.

The all-steel bases are great!

.

I find the newer style Grand Slams to be more attractive, stronger and easier to install than the traditional Weaver rings with the two screws on one side and a hook on the other. We are slowing converting over to the Grand Slams but still get asked for the older style from time to time. Phil.

To answer your other question, Grandslam rings will work on regular Weaver bases and vice versa.

BTW Phil, are you guys stocking the QR grandslams (medium, 1", matte) and if so how much?
